Business Summary
Terra Industries Inc. is engaged in the production and marketing of both nitrogen products and methanol. The Company producers anhydrous ammonia and nitrogen solutions in the United States and Canada and is a producer of ammonium nitrate in the United Kingdom. Terra also owns eight facilities that produce nitrogen products. Two of these eight facilities also produce methanol. Subsidiaries not wholly owned by Terra include a limited partnership, Terra Nitrogen Company, L.P. that, through its subsidiary, Terra Nitrogen, L.P., operates the Company's manufacturing facilities in Blytheville, Arkansas and Verdigris, Oklahoma. Terra is the sole general partner and the majority limited partner in Terra Nitrogen Company, L.P.

Financial Summary
Terra Industries, through its direct and indirect subsidiaries, is involved in the production and marketing of both nitrogen products and methanol. For the six months ended 6/30/01, total revenues increased 7% to $565.4 million. Net loss increased 31% to $26.8 million. Revenues reflect increased average selling prices per unit of methanol products. Higher loss reflects costs associated with the recall of carbonated beverages containing carbon dioxide tainted with benzene.
