Business Summary

Buckeye Technologies Inc. is a leading manufacturer and worldwide marketer of value-added cellulose-based specialty products. Buckeye's products can be broadly grouped into three categories: chemical cellulose, customized paper cellulose, and absorbent products. Chemical cellulose is used to impart purity, strength, and viscosity in the manufacture of diversified products such as food casings, rayon filament and acetate plastics, as well as thickeners for food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Customized paper cellulose is used to provide porosity, color permanence, and tear resistance in automotive air and oil filters, premium letterhead, currency paper, and personal stationery. Absorbent products are used to increase absorbency and fluid transport in products such as disposable diapers, feminine hygiene products, adult incontinence products and household wipes and mops.

Financial Summary

BKI manufactures and distributes value-added cellulose-based specialty products. Applications include disposable baby products, filters, food casings, rayon filament, acetate plastics, and papers. For the nine months ended 3/31/01, revenues fell less than 1% to $556.5 million. Net income fell 10% to $38.1 million. Revenues reflect lower shipments and declining prices of fluff pulp. Net income reflects increased manufacturing costs and higher debt levels.
