Business Summary

Deere & Company manufactures and distributes equipment for agricultural, commercial and residential, and construction uses. Farm equipment includes tractors, harvesters, sprayers, hay and forage equipment and materials handling equipment. Commercial and consumer equipment includes small tractors, riding and walk-behind mowers, golf course equipment, snowblowers, skid-steer loaders, utility vehicles, and other outdoor power products. Construction equipment includes backhoe loaders, crawler dozers and loaders, four-wheel-drive loaders, excavators, motor graders, articulated dump trucks, forklifts, and landscape loaders. The products produced are marketed worldwide primarily through independent retail dealer networks and major retail outlets.

Financial Summary

DE manufactures and distributes farm equipment, machines used in construction, earthmoving and forestry, and equipment for commercial and residential uses. DE also finances sales and leases by John Deere dealers, offers specialized insurance and provides health management services. For the nine months ended 7/31/01, revenues rose 3% to $10.04 billion. Net income fell 38% to $256 million. Results reflect increased sales volumes, offset by lower margins.
