Business Summary
First Tennessee National Corporation is a bank holding company and financial holding company. Through its principal subsidiary, First Tennessee Bank National Association, and its other banking and banking-related subsidiaries, the Company provides a broad range of financial services. Significant operations are conducted in the commercial banking business as well as through mortgage banking, capital markets and transaction processing divisions. As a financial holding company, the Company coordinates the financial resources of the consolidated enterprise and maintains systems of financial, operational and administrative control that allows coordination of selected policies and activities.

Financial Summary
FTN is a bank holding company whose subsidiaries operate banking offices in TN, MS and AR. For the six months ended 6/30/01, total interest income fell 5% to $628.3 million. Net interest income after LLP rose 6% to $281.8 million. Net income before extraordinary items rose 59% to $151.4 million. Net interest income reflect decreased interest earning assets, offset by lower interest paid on borrowings. Earnings reflect higher capital market income.
