Union Planters Corporation is a $34.7 billion multi-state bank holding company whose primary business is banking. Union Planters Bank, National Association (Union Planters Bank), of Memphis, Tennessee, is Union Planters' largest subsidiary. The principal banking markets of Union Planters are in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas. Union Planters' market areas are served by its 847 banking offices and 1,065 automated teller machines. Capital Factors, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Union Planters Bank, provides receivable-based commercial financing and related fee-based credit. It also provides these services through an asset-based lending office in Atlanta, Georgia, and its headquarters in Boca Raton, Florida. The mortgage operations of Union Planters Bank operate 25 stand-alone mortgage production offices in 14 states, in addition to mortgage production offices located in its branch banking locations.

Financial Summary
Union Planters Corp. is a bank holding company whose subsidiaries operate through 847 banking offices in 12 states. For the six months ended 6/30/01, total interest income rose 3% to $1.26 billion. Net interest income after loan loss provision fell 3% to $573 million. Net income applicable to Common rose 6% to $214.9 million. Results reflect increased interest paid on long-term debt and a higher provision for loan losses, offset by higher mortgage banking revenue.
