Universal Health Services, Inc.'s principal business is owning and operating acute-care hospitals, behavioral health centers, ambulatory surgery centers, radiation oncology centers and women's centers. The Company operates 59 hospitals, consisting of 23 acute-care hospitals, 35 behavioral health centers and a specialized women's health center in Arkansas, California, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Washington. The Company, as part of its Ambulatory Treatment Centers Division, owns outright, or in partnership with physicians, and operates or manages 25 surgery and radiation oncology centers located in 12 states and the District of Columbia.

Financial Summary

Universal Health Services is engaged principally in owning and operating acute care hospitals, behavioral health centers, ambulatory surgery centers and radiation oncology centers. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues increased 31% to $1.40 billion. Net income increased 32% to $68.6 million. Revenues benefited from growth in admissions to acute care hospitals and behavioral health facilities. Net income also reflects the benefits of favorable pricing trends.
