Its general merchandise retail operations are located in 321 of the 331 Metropolitan Statistical Areas in the United States. The Company's stores are generally one-floor, freestanding units, ranging in size from 40,000 to 190,000 square feet.

Financial Summary
Kmart Corp. is a mass merchandise retailer, operating discount department stores in all 50 states in the United States as well as Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands. For the 26 weeks ended 8/1/01, revenues rose less than 1% to $17.26 billion. Net loss applicable to Com. decreased 72% to $120 million. Revenues reflect strength in home appliances and electronics and pharmacy divisions. Lower loss benefitted from decreased administrative expenses.
