Novellus Systems, Inc. manufactures, markets and services advanced systems used to deposit thin conductive and insulating films on semiconductor devices, as well as equipment for preparing the device surface for these deposition processes. The Company supplies high-productivity deposition and surface preparation systems used in the fabrication of integrated circuits. Novellus focuses on advanced thin film deposition systems and surface preparation equipment, including Chemical Vapor Deposition, Physical Vapor Deposition, electrofill (electroplating), photoresist strip and residue removal systems that provide high film quality while attaining the high levels of productivity required to meet the semiconductor industry's need for high-volume, low-cost wafer production.

Financial Summary
Novellus Systems Inc. manufactures, markets and services advanced automated wafer fabrication systems for the deposition of thin films within the semiconductor equipment market. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues increased 43% to to $835.6 million. Net income before accounting change increased 39% to $141.3 million. Revenues reflect ongoing growth in the semiconductor industry. Earnings were partially offset by $13.2 million in merger related costs.
