Sony NEWS 1750

The Sony NEWS 1750 is a nice 68030 + 68882 Unix workstation runnning 4.3 BSD Unix from the manufacturer. NEWS == NEtwork WorkStation

This machine, along with others, was built by a division within Sony which supported other areas, tried new technologies, and hardware. Competition of the NEWS was Sun, DEC, IBM and ????. This resulted in a well built machine to compete with those competitors.

Not having their own OS divisions like those other companies had, Sony stuck with real 4.3 BSD Unix, which is a blessing since that is about the best version of Unix you can run.

My NEWS is currently configured with

• ?? MB SCSI Hard Disk in an external Sony Chassis -- terminates buss outside
• QIC-120 SCSI Cartridge Tape Drive -- terminates buss inside
• 3-1/2" Floppy Disk
• NEWS Keyboard
• NEWS Mouse ( 3 button, ball )
• AUI Ethernet via AMD 7990 Lance chipset
• AUI cable
• SCSI Cable
• 17" Sony Trinitron RGB Monitor
• Sony Graphics Card
