Troller TRH-200 Connections and Hookup

In 2026, someone asked me if I had an info sheet for my Troller throttles. I do and I intended to scan some of those in sooner rather than later, so I have a handy online reference as well.

Due to some software compatability issues with getting the quality of scan I would like... I'm also just transcripting some of the notes directly for the requester, so they can use their TRH-200 sooner rather than later.

The TRH-200 can be connected to operate in two modes.

  1. A.C. Mode -- connect white and green wires to the track, the red and black wires to a low voltage AC accessory outlet, between 8 and 20 V. AC. DO NOT CONNECT TO WALL OUTLET DIRECTLY

    In this mode of operation, a small rounded pulse of approximately 10-15% duty cycle will be applied to the track when the throttle is set for slower speed settings. As the throttle is turned for faster speeds the pulse widens and pure filtered D.C. is brought up around the pulse and becomes only D.C at full throttle

  2. D.C. Mode (filtered) -- Connect to source of low voltage D.C between 8 to 20 Volts. The TRH-200 has a filter built in so any D.C accessory outlet from any power pack can be used. Connect the White and Green wires to the track, red lead to the + (positive) terminal and one black lead to the - (negative) terminal.

    In this mode of operation all functions will operate (momentum, brake, etc) but the voltage fed to the track will be filtered D.C. This hookup mode is appropriate for certain motors that operate most efficiently on 'pure D.C.'

My TRH-200s came with a variety of connectors, some were just wire ends, and some were 4 blade connctors, with two parallel pins, and two inline pins...

Please Note

I have two TRH-200s.. both use the same style of connector diagramed above. One had a hack-job of wiring; the other "nicer" one is the one I put colors on the pins for.

The two different setups are not identical as regards to both track and power wiring, as well as polarity!!

It is likely that different layouts with cab control connectors have different setups and polarities for cab-control wiring. BE VERY CAREFUL when using a connectored-throttle on a layout, to avoid damage. It is likely that there are different wiring on different layouts.. and a cab control from one layout may not work at all on another.

When I get around to it I'm going to make a test plug that verifies that input and track are correct.. likely with some LEDs and some resistors to make a test harness so I can double-check my own wiring!
