One Free Issue

I'm sure everyone's familiar with the promotional letters magazines send out offering free issues. I guess that they hope that you'll just accidentally pay the bill they send you with your free issue. This week and this week only, find out about some of the magazines (or book clubs) that I've returned the free issue postcards to.

Date Magazine
Sunday April 11, 1999 Brill's Content This is the most recent one. I just got the bill the other day. I'm still waiting for the free issue. If that magazine doesn't get here soon I might call them up and demand a refund!
Monday April 12, 1999 Wired I got a free issue of wired about two years ago now. I don't remember if I actually remembered to write 'Cancel' on the bill and send it back or not. In any case, I'm sure that they only sent me one. The high-tech trendiness was overwhelming.
Tuesday April 13, 1999 The Economist This was at about the same time as I got the free Wired issue. The Economist gets published more often, though, and was offering 3 free issues! I didn't write cancel on the bill and send it back, and they ended up sending me at least 4. Thanks The Economist.
Wednesday April 14, 1999 Bicycling Bicycling didn't send me free issues in the usual way, that is, they didn't send them as part of some promotional offer. I was subscribed to their magazine a few years ago, but I stopped getting it when I moved (duuuuh!). Then, quite a few months later, after my subscription had run out I started getting them again. I think they sent them for 2 or 3 months.
NEWS-FLASH:I just got 2, count 'em, 2 free issues of Brill's Content today! They were only supposed to send me one. Thanks Brill's Content!
Thursday April 15, 1999 VeloNews Oh coincidence of happy coincidences! I just got a postcard from the genuinely cool bike magazine VeloNews offering a free issue. Hopefully I remember to send this one in. I got one of these before, but I think the postcard accidentally became a piece of scrap paper.
Friday April 16, 1999 Quality Paperback Club Quality Paperback Club isn't really a magazine. They're a mail-order book club that was offering a bunch of books for free (or at least really cheap) just for joining - no further commitment to buy anything... . The trouble is that every month they send out a letter and an ad saying what book they're going to send you that month unless you write back telling them not to. I found that they send you the book even if you do write back to say that you don't want it. They dropped me after about four months because I was sending all their books back.
