This week only! Find out why and how people freak out and act stupid over the holidays. I hope to answer this question in many different ways and have some examples of freaked-out stupid behavior. So if you freak out and act stupid over the holidays, or you know someone who does, please tell me about it.
Disclaimer: This is all nonsense, I have no idea what I'm talking about.
Sunday January 1, 1999 | Easy answer: Too much champagne, eggnog etc. Booze always helps people get freaked out and stupid. |
Monday January 4, 1999 | Psychologist answer: Seasonal affective disorder. Believed to be because
of the reduced amount of light in the wintertime it can have
different effects on people. Symptoms include overeating, increased sleeping,
fatigue, and freaking out and acting stupid over the holidays. It is often
treated with extra artificial light. It is more prevalent on the US east
coast than in Iceland.

Tuesday January 5, 1999 | Psychologist answer #2: Maybe people find the hoidays too stressful. They may be under pressure to visit lots of people, buy lots of presents, or take lots of exams, and you have to send your list to Santa before the 24th if you want to get the stuff you want. This could cause someone freak out. |
Wednesday January 6, 1999 | Just a freak all the time. Maybe someone is just a freak all year but it becomes more memorable during the holidays. My little brother is a good example of this. |
Thursday January 7, 1999 | One reader writes that her ex-boyfriend freaked out over the holidays and began obsessing about a not so recent break-up of his, to the point that she decided to give him the boot. The cause of this behavior has yet to be determined, but she suspects eggnog and martinis may have played a role. |
Friday January 7, 1999 | A silly answer: Some people either are Santa Claus or work for Santa, and their freaked out behavior is just part of their trying to cover up their secret double life. |
Saturday January 8, 1999 | It's so cold. People's brains can become frozen causing them to behave erratically. Or underpants gnomes may have taken their underpants and they're upset about that. |
