#1 Wanderlust - MP3
Ok, I have been extremely busy with work and stuff, but I cranked this out. I'm not particularly happy with it, but it is at least better than nothing.
It was originally patterened after old sea shanty/folk song type songs... sort of the melancholy wandering song, but as is usual with my stuff it didn't quite fit that and ended up being depressing, so I apologize. It's kinda derivative and I'm not sure if I would keep it beyond February, but the point of FAWM is to write and not critique, so here it is anyway.
I have had a total of 3 hours to record so far this month and 2 of those were spent trying to figure out why I had a nasty hum in my system (pickup+Room Light Fader+UPS on PC=Nasty), so I finally gave up trying to do it as a completely live take and just recorded the guitar part at about midnight last night. I will slap the vocals on tonight and upload it.
The song is actually about my job, if you can believe it, but it goes for anytime you're life is lost and you're not sure where you should be.
Wanderlost
Lyrics/Music by Eric Distad
I have searched a thousand days
for a wind I can not find
I tug the line to flap the sail
and row past whats behind
Adrift, aground, around the bend
'cross swells both high and low
I stand my watch and look beyond
the shores I'll never know
Blow blow, cold North Wind
bear me back to shore
shine the star, set my course
guide me evermore
Down a lane among the leaves
beneath the moon so true
I wander lost among the trees
but feel the sea so blue
Blow blow cold North Wind
bear me to my home
shine sweet star, set my course
wherever I may roam
First the wind, then the storm
Now the Hurricane
with this ache in my soul
that echoes in the rain
The sea calls and then the leaves
as do the fields and sand
but long will I wander thus
to know no sea or land
Blow blow cold North Wind
bear me back to shore
shine the star, set my course
guide me evermore

the lyrical style certainly fits with that old nordic sea shanty feel... look forward to hearing the demo.

i like the "wind i cannot find", but i liked the "flow to row against" also. maybe the latter is a bit more grumpy.

there are many things which are not as good as nothing.

OK it is updated. In case the change I made to the entry above takes a while to update, here is the location of the file. - http://home.comcast.net/~e.distad/wanderlust.mp3
I'm sorry about the vocals. They are pretty bad thanks to the cold that I've had for the last 2 weeks and the migraine I just recieved this afternoon. (I really don't sound that bad... honest!)
Anyway, I may be delayed in my next endeavor since it is kinda hard to think when you're head is pounding.. But I'll keep trying.
Willis - The wind bit predated the flow part. The flow was going to be aimed at a different song/message. I just happened to be in a nautical groove I guess - probably because both ideas came to me in the shower.. I really like the flow to row against, but I was afraid it was too close to this song but couldn't find a way to make it fit into this song (though I may not have tried hard enough). I wanted to salvage it which is why I posted it.
Feel free to lift it if you like...

nice job, eric. i can imagine a nice harmony part for the chorus. perhaps a textural piano part throughout the piece as well (though the simplicity of arrangement is good)...
hope the migraine abates.

so wait... is it called "wanderLOST" or "wanderLUST"?? those kinda have two different connotations (but they both work, i think).
