This song was written musically first from a little fingerpicking riff and then the words were dumped. Please forgive the vocals, as usual. (I found out today I have a sinus infection... ugh) I was determined to do this as a live take and consequently ended up makin a few mistakes guitar-wise because I was determined to do the finger-picking.. c'est la vie.
The chorus need serious help and any advice would be appreciated.
People Magazine
Bringing out the stars
They’re shining
In their carriage cars
They’re pining
For spotlight and cigars
And endless party nights
Looking at the scars
They’re hiding
in makeup and guitars
They’re running
From money-mogul czars
Who sell their plastic life
(Chorus)
It never ends
The face that you see
was bought based on trends
in People magazine
electric eyes stare
they’re moving
to avoid the glare
they running
from artificial suns
that show all their strife
Hide behind the clouds
They’re smiling
At the rabid crowds
They waving
Holding back the doubts
And glowing in the night

This song is pretty skeletal but I hear it actually as heavy/dark song like an Interpol type song. Add tons of reverb and sing in your best Ian Curtis, maybe it might work?

unfamiliar with interpol, i nabbed one of their mp3s from epitonic to get a feel for whether or not i agree with hopper's comment: http://www.epitonic.com/artists/interpol.html
i think i agree. eric, i think your voice might be suited for that style, and this song in particular.

Ok, I hadn't heard of Interpol either but I checked them out. I definately dig it. (I think I may have to pick up that disk)
The original Idea I had in my head was to start with the fingerpicking and add layers (I like layers.. probably too much) The total sound I was shooting for was actually a lot like the Interpol stuff. I lean that way a lot in my music writing.
I think you're right about the vocals too.
Thanks guys! =)
