Calculus is a tool for engineers, not an end in itself. As an engineer you are expected to use differential calculus to find the optimum solution to problems. In this lab we will use our understanding of calculus and how first derivatives relate to local maxima and minima of a function of one variable. Likewise integral calculus is important for finding areas and volumes and for analyzing solid objects. We will use our knowledge of volumes of revolution to analyze an engineering problem. Finally, we will explore some additional plotting capabilities Maple has that allow us different ways to express information graphically.
