Summary for Week 6
-
Lectures 14 and 15:We continued our discussion on real-time systems. Specifically
we discussed real-time scheduling, such as earliest deadline first (EDF) and
rate monotonic scheduling (RMS). We also covered
two schedulability tests for RMS. We also discussed the problem of priority
inversion. We proposed two solutions for the priority inversion problem: basic
priority inheritance (BIP) and priority ceiling protocols (PCP).
Dates:Mon, 10/7/01 and Wed, 10/9/01.
Our discussion was based on the following slides.
These slides were graciously provided by Professor Lui Sha.
We also handed out the following paper:
Real-Time Scheduling Theory and Ada, L. Sha and J.B. Goodenough. I cannot link this
paper because of copyright restrictions.

Lecture 16:We finished our discussion on real-time systems. Specifically, we
discussed scheduling of aperiodic tasks. We also discussed the priority inversion
problem that occurred in the Mars pathfinder (see the following slides).
We started discussing real time CTL or RTCTL, which can more conveniently express
real time properties.
Date: Fri, 10/11/02.
