Description
Diabolical Pitch is a fast-paced game controlled exclusively through the Kinect peripheral. Players control baseball player McAllister through a third-person view. After throwing a record-breaking out, he wrecks his throwing arm. Next he has a car accident and ends up at the Queen Christine's Dream Land amusement park where a cow-headed man tells him the only way to get his arm back is to reach the end of the park with a bionic arm.During gameplay McAllister stays in a fixed position near the bottom of the screen and the player looks over his shoulder. He has to defeat enemies by throwing baseballs at them. Aiming is done with the player's left arm, also used to lock on opponents or projectiles, and throwing is done with the player's right arm. The right arm can also turn into a cannon. Some opponents carry shields or can only be taken out with a head shot. He cannot throw at a constant rate however as fatigue sometimes overwhelms him and then some time is needed to recover. By defeating opponents a currency is gathered that can be spent on baseball cards to unlock further abilities. They are divided into the categories Action, Diabolical Pitch, Multiplayer, Score, and Power-Up. These upgrades increase his stamina and extend combo time for instance. The Action upgrades are used for close-combat. McAllister can duck, jump, shove enemies away and kick them across the screen.
A limited special attack called Diabolical Pitch is charged by raising both hands. It unleashes one of the six attacks, including a fireball, a thunderball, a tornadoball, a meteorball or it equips him with a powerful bat or his bionic arm as a gun. The effectiveness of certain attacks is measured by timing the activation through a bar near the top of the screen going left and right. Additional points are scored by collecting items to line them up as in a slot machine. The game can be played in cooperative offline multiplayer. Next to the dual combat with bonuses for synchronous throws (union ball), special abilities such as reviving the other player can be used. There are four environments in total.
