The Lunarians' Tale: The Blue Planet That Was is an optional story for Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. It is a separate download for mobile phones and a DLC for WiiWare version of the game.

This is the story of Lunarians Golbez and Fusoya, important characters of the original Final Fantasy IV. The Mysterious Girl invades their Moon and petrifies Bahamut, just the way she does with the Eidolons. The protagonists will try to hunt her down and confront her.

Lunarians' Tale features mechanics introduced in Final Fantasy IV: The After Years - bands and the change of the moon phase. The Challenge dungeon accessible after the end of the story is a maze of corridors set in the Lunar Subterrane. Unique to this story, there's a second Challenge dungeon accessible if the player has found a special item in the first Challenge dungeon.

Lunarians' Tale is not necessary for completing Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, however finishing this story will allow the players to export one character with all his items, equipment and characteristics into the final tale - The Crystals.
