Description

LocoCycle is an action game where the player controls I.R.I.S., a sentient assassin motorcycle dragging behind the screaming engineer Pablo who got his pant leg stuck in the chassis. The bike got struck by lightning and now wants to break free to head across the States and visit a biker rally. The game carries a goofy tone as the Spanish speaking Pablo wants to escape as quickly as possible, but is misunderstood all the time by the motorcycle's AI system. The player controls the bike to progress through linear environments where it is chased by another motorcycle S.P.I.K.E. and a weapons cartel. The cut-scenes that progress the story are shot as live-action segments.

The bike accelerates mostly by itself and also takes care of some of the steering so the player can focus on the gunplay. It needs to dodge obstacles and traffic, and can hit pedestrians for combos. It also has access to a turbo function to go faster for a short while. Members of the cartel attempt to stop the motorcycle, for instance by jumping on top of it. This needs to be countered quickly. There are also scripted encounters where incoming attacks need to be countered through quick time events. In a variation of these the motorcycle can float in the air and fight with various mechanical parts against flying enemies such as the jet pack powered outrunners. There are weak and strong attacks and these also often involve Pablo, even using him as some sort of boomerang. Most of the encounters have the bike shoot vehicles with guns. Incoming projectiles can be bounced back and turbo sometimes needs to be used to avoid bombs.

Between levels the experience gained is used at an upgrade store for additional health, better recharge rates, more weapon damage, combo tweaks and a drone. There are also very different gameplay variations, such as a top-down shooting levels with a whiff of 1942 where the motorcycle flies in the air and the players has to guide a reticle to destroy all targets below. Later in the game I.R.I.S. has to fight S.P.I.K.E. is a segment that is played entirely as a one-on-one 2D fighting game similar to Street Fighter. There are seventeen levels in total.
