Description
Nexuiz is a commercial remake of the 2005 open source shooter Nexuiz. In the future, arena battles are broad-casted over intergalactic TV and the player participates in it.The game features nine maps with different themes and two playing modes (team deathmatch and capture the flag). However, each map has a fixed mode associated with it. The gameplay focuses on fast-paced play and the levels feature obstacles like transporters or jumping pads. The weapon selection (all with secondary fire) follows the science-fiction genre standard and power-ups appear in the form of mutators. These can be either collected during the match or are earned after a kill steak or capturing the flag and are randomized (a set of preferred ones can be chosen outside the matches). There are about a hundred of those mutators, including temporary infinite ammo, low gravity or auto-jump for all participants.
The game is designed as multiplayer game, but there is a singleplayer mode in which the player competes against bots.

Trivia
Cancelled PlayStation 3 version
A PlayStation 3 version was announced, but cancelled in August 2012.Controversy
The contributors to the original Nexuiz were not happy when founder Lee Vermeulen sold the name, website and the game code to IllFonic. They felt betrayed of their work as Vermeulen did not work for the project in years. Also IllFonic refused to share their improvements to the code with the open source team (this issue has been resolved later, though). In conclusion, the remake features significantly less content than Nexuiz (2005) and the original team founded a new project named Xonotic.Credits
