A New 10 list and Today's top 50 MCs walk into a bar, hilarity ensues
Yesturday, I put up a new list of ten things that I like on the right hand side of the page. Included on that list is Sage Francis, who according to Hip Hop Infinity is right now the best MC in the whole wide world. They just posted their annual Top 50 emcees (read:rappers) list. Sage's Still Sick... was my I-Can-Hear-the-Heart-Beating-as-One* album of 2001.

*an I-Can-Hear-the-Heart-Beating-as-One album refers to Yo La Tengo's album of the same name that got slept-on**, then upon its dicovery becomes the one best albums ever, jordan then tries to make everyone realize its greatness by buying or in the rarest case burning them a copy of that album.
**slept-on: something that passes by without one knowing about that something. In this case album was released atleast a year before i hear itpermanent link

#@%&^*!!!!!, Episode 2 - The M#@%&^F#@%&^*ing Return
As you may know, my apt got robbed a little more then a month ago. Well, today I came home from work, and noticed our Playstation was gone and there were some things scattered on the floor in the kitchen. Then I recieved a call from a Sergeant from the Mpls Police Dept who notified me that they recieved a call from a neighbor that someone was seen snooping around our apt. I guess we left one our doors unlocked this morning (prolly the first time a door has been left unlocked since the prior incident) and someone got in to our apt. They took our Playstation, Tony Hawk 2 AND 3, Evans watch, and just like before all of the change on Ben's desk. We suspect its the same person who got us and my camera before. The good news is that after the neighbor called the police came by quick and nabbed a suspect outside of our apt. They found our Playstation and one of the Tony Hawks, and most likely Evan's watch. We are again shaken up. People keep your doors locked. Much respect to the fast acting police, and the unknown observant neighbor.permanent link

"SUNDAY!,SUNDAY!,SUNDAY!"
No I didn't go to a monster truck rally nor a boat show. Today was a day of television in 2417, started with football, moving on to more football and finished with the Simpsons, which was hilarious and featured a demolition derby hence the title of this entry. The TV in my apartment gets for the neglected for the most part. Aside from the occasional Wolves/Vikings game, we tend to ignore the old Mitsubishi, so today I decided to show it some love and watched it for 8 hours. Now if it would only stop whining :)

Thanks Milo!
A lot of tight web sites these days put links of sites that they like on the side bar of there front page. Usually bloggers put links to other blogs that they like on these list o' links. Jumping from list to list is one way to get an idea about the state of the internet today. Anyways, JRDN KDHL got on its first (that I know of) front/blog page of good links! I consider it an honor to have gotten some time on Milov.nl, an excellent site featuring design and code tips and quality photos. Check it out, my name is on the left side of the page in the Links section. Milov.nl will no doubt get a spot on my A-list when I put it up some time later this week. permanent link

>FLUUUUU, BAAAAADDD!!!
I've made a full recovery from my ~24 hour bout with the flu, which was the first time (well second if you count that MGD fiasco of junior year) that I've thrown up in atleast 8 years. Hmm.... It seems I seem to blog an aweful lot about my ailments, namelying sore throat, robberies, flu-bugs, etc. Which I spose could be one use for this blog but lets talk about something cool instead. permanent link

>FOOOOD, GOOOOD!
When it comes to cooking, I've become considerably more sophisticated since my college days. Gone are the days when cereal was a breakfast, lunch and dinner thing, or times when I would spend $5 on ramen ( thats a lot of ramen) noodles per grocery trip. Don't get me wrong I still eat cereal for breakfast and sometimes even lunch. But I have developed a more refined palate. I've created a number of gourmet dishes in recent weeks. My current favorite is this recipe for Terribly-Terrific-Tostadas:

1 white corn tortilla
some Cheese, I like Monterey Jack
some beans, I love Kuners black beans
1/2 tomato sliced
some olive oil
pinch of salt
Instructions: pour some olive oil, not too much or too little but enough so the tortilla gets crisp and doesnt stick to the pan, in a pan on medium-high heat.
put beans and cheese on tortilla, then set in hot pan.
Heat til cheese is melted.
remove tortilla from heat.
Add salt to tomato slices to bring out flavor.
Put tomatos on top of tostada.
Throw Down(eat).

Usually 2-3 of these tostadas will fill me up. Feel free to add different vegetables or meats to this recipe.
Notice that this meal covers numerous food groups: Grains, Fruits, Protiens, Dairy also beans are a good source of fiber.

got any good recipes?

Cold, @Home, endlesswebchain, Stevie
Its nearing the end of wednesday evening, Im sitting in my apt at my computer under a fleece blanket aka throw (or something) (thanks wel) because our apartment doesnt hold heat. The roomies are out and about, and I'm deciding whether I should wait for them to get home or should I go to bed. There are many things I should've done (sorry joe) tonight but instead I got caught up in the blog-link chain. Tonight's fascinating sites and their connections have a DHTML-design flavor and they are (highly recommended) as follows: Milov.nl -> 13th Parallel -> youngpup.net -> scottandrew -> idontsmoke -> smokinggun -> glenmurphy -> threeOH . Ugghhh I could go on forever, there seem to be an infinite number of cool sites out there to distract anyone from menial -> urgent tasks.
I have listened to Songs In the Keys of Life (thank you jeffrey) at least 5 times/day for the past 2 weeks and there's no end in sight, I feel incredibly fortunate not to been kicked out of my apartment yet.

Adventures in Photoshop
In search of some inspiration and tips I bought the New Masters of Photoshop last week. It's book published by Friends of Ed that features work from such artists as: Mike Young, Micheal Cina and Jens Karlsson. Heres my first piece since purchasing the book:

Volumisant pour cheveux sans vie

The title translates to "extra body for hair without life". An interesting note, I took the title from my roomate's shampoo bottle. On the bottle the english says "extra body for limp hair" it is also written in french but instead of saying limp hair they say "cheveux sans vie" or hair without life, which sounds much better in my opinion.
If you want to know how I did this piece check my projects page. A warning about the book, only 15 of the 19 artists that were featured in the New Masters of Photoshop book provide source code (aka the files they used to create their pieces from the book) on the CD that accompanies the book. permanent link
