Overview

Computer scientists from Spain and Chile offer an introduction to fuzzy logic, fuzzy databases, and fuzzy modeling in databases. The text describes a notation for conceptual design in an imprecise environment through the FuzzyEER model; the studied extensions include fuzzy attributes, fuzzy aggregations, and aspects of specializations such as fuzzy degrees and fuzzy constraints. The authors also propose a method to translate a FuzzyEER model to a classical DBMS and define Fuzzy SQL, an extension of the SQL language that allows users to write flexible conditions in queries, using all extensions defined by the FuzzyEER model.
