I was initially excited about finding a book focused particularly on GUI development in Java, but I found the book to be somewhat of a disappointment. There were errors (the book even misspelled some of the names of key Java classes), it is very poorly written, and the explanations of key concepts could best be described as `murky¿. The author¿s treatment of the MVC pattern was particularly weak. There are instances where 5 or 6 consecutive paragraphs are nothing more than restatements of the definition of some simple keyword. As an example: early in the book there is a page and a half of paragraphs that contain multiple rewordings of the definition for `native peer¿. Another annoyance was the author¿s tendency while in the middle of addressing a topic to jump to another completely unrelated topic. Overall the book gave me the impression that it did not spend enough time in the editorial process. I did not feel that I got my money¿s worth.
