Description: This drug database in CD-ROM format allows nurses quick access to essential information. However, unless the user has had prior experience installing a new CD-ROM, this one is a little hard to use. The information is grouped into generic and trade drug names and is accompanied by a discussion of disease entities and laboratory tests.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide drug information at a nurse's fingertips and the CD-ROM does that well. The groupings are nice. The objectives are worthy and met.
Audience: The audience is student nurses and practicing nurses. The CD-ROM meets the needs of both populations.
Features: The content is good, but the CD-ROM could have made better use of color and graphics. For instance, a good example of a chest X-ray should be inserted when discussing them. Plus, I have always loved how Mosby uses color coordinated material (red text for life- threatening issues, etc).
Assessment: This is a good product and it does not swamp the user with overwhelming amounts of material. However, the information could be presented better and it could include issues such as poisoning (like Micromedex and Lexi-Comp). For the money, however, it is an excellent buy.
