Highly recommended because van der Linden is a wonderful, entertaining writer who makes sense. In response to the other review, Java has very good performance in an enterprise, networked application environment. The limitations aren't with Java, it's with your network! As for Microsoft, they are trashed because they *deserve* to be trashed. Their buggy, bloated, proprietary model of development is ten years behind the times and this book explains why. I guess van der Linden struck a nerve, huh? You'll notice that Java is growing exponentially while Visual Basic and Visual C++ are static or dying.
