Overview

Mitchell Waite Signature Series: Object-Oriented Design in Java takes a tutorial approach and teaches in a new way: by offering the Java code first and the design representations and explanations later. No other programming-level book on the market deals with design of Java software. There's nothing aimed at the in the trenches Java programmer. Nor can the Java programmer turn to general books on software design. These, with few exceptions, are abstract and academic, either incomprehensible or irrelevant from the perspective of the working programmer. This book targets the needs of Java application programmers, using an experience-based, hands-on approach.

I thought "OOD in Java" was a good book. Then I had to read David Budgen's "Software Design" book for another class. I now think "OOD in Java" is a great book. The book is just an object-oriented design book; it's not really a Java book. Java is just the language used to illustrate the examples and the book includes a Java tutorial. I refer to this book often as it eloquently explains several areas of importance to me in my academic and work environments. I have a hard time not giving this book five stars.

This is by far the best Techinical book that I have read. It provides several great examples which you build upon and also gives you the opportunity to do your own as well. Highly recommended.
