A First class textbook. If you are an absolute beginner and wish to get to a good standard then I would absolutely recommend this book. It's full of information and hints and tips. Every chapter has checkpoints to test your knowledge, Common mistakes, and plenty of real-world programming challenges to actually help you put the things you learn into practise. The only failing is the redudent chapter on Applets as they aren't used these days, but for everything else, this is a perfect method to le
