ini buku paling asyik tentang jawa.
khususnya tentang proses institusionalisasi apa yang disebut sebagai 'jawa asli' dalam masyarakat jawa. pemberton menggunakan penelitian lapangannya di sala/surakarta dan sekitarnya sehingga sedikit banyak saya bisa membayangkan tempat saya dibesarkan itu.
bacalah ini bersama dengan tulisan-tulisan ben anderson, nancy florida dan james t.siegl.
