Well, I passed the exam, so in that aspect the book did its job. But from a didactic perspective I'm not a fan.

I'm not a fan of the certification exam itself either, and the book, of course, had little choice but to teach to the test. It would be unfair to blame the book for the exam's shortcomings. So I won't complain about the necessity to learn the Throwable family by heart, or Oracle's strange excitement about the test taker being able to act as a human compiler (they seam to live in a bleak

Well, compared to SCJP 6 exam preparation guide, it's not that fascinating. Good for OCA exam preparation, but not really interesting.

What I really liked about this book are the links to some interesting resourses and books. Also authors have prepared a very useful appendix which may be used on the job.

The book contains a lot of typos, errors and examples that are hard to follow for people that are not familiar with Java language(e.g. illustrating iterations statements with HashMaps before introducing even primitives is not a very fit exercise).
