This is just an introduction book on play just updated with latest version. Not so great for experienced developers looking best practices about designing play application especially if its an micro service or rest api. Author try to explain different parts of the play framework and combine them with rather simple, boring crud(warehouse) application (which has lots of missing parts by the way, thank god its has source code on github so that you can find missing parts).

This book gives a good overview about reactive design, basics of creating your web application with Play, how to use the tools needed and even covers the topic of testing. The book shows how to use three different IDEs with Play 2: Eclipse, IntelliJ, and NetBeans. You also can stick with the Play 2 console and a text editor.

Still in MEAP (early access program) and thus in serious need of proofreading, but a promising book, whether you're an intermediate Java programmer or an enterprise developer looking to slim down from J2EE
