This book was highly recommended to me by a friend who has been working in the software business for about 20 years. The book is not intended to teach you everything about SQL, it is intended to prepare you for the exam. However, it teaches a great deal, I learned a lot and filled in many gaps in my technical knowledge I did not even know I had. This book is terrible. This book is poorly written, confusing, and perhaps worst of all entirely ambiguous at times. A certification exam guide needs to be filled with concrete statements "This won't be on the exam...", "This may be on the exam...", "The exact syntax is as follows...", etc.... This book is entirely wishy washy. I would say don't buy it, but unfortunately what other book covers the material? Oh well.
Very readable compared to other computer books. The end of chapter quizzes are very good, and the attached CD with downloadable practice exam is great. If you don't read this book, there's probably zero chance that you'll pass the Oracle cert exam.

If you only read one book about Oracle's SQL Expert (1Z0-047) certification this year, make it this one.
This book has a lot of errors in its text even found one error in the master exam that comes with it.
