The game more than backs up its aesthetic prowess with rewarding combat and exploration systems in place. While the combat hardly changes over the course of the adventure, Apotheon asks the player to apply their knowledge in such a wide variety of ways that it constantly feels fresh and exciting.

Not only is Apotheon a tireless devotion to ancient Greek art and culture, it’s also a damn fun game and one of my surprise early favorites of 2015.

Apotheon is myth alive, it's a beautiful and wonderful indie game with very good ideas, music, characters... The ancient Greeks valued balance and harmony in their art and philosophy, and Alientrap Studios has got just that. Apotheosic.

If it played just a little tighter, Apotheon would be brushing up against greatness. As it stands, it's stunning to look at and a pleasure to play, and what flaws it does have can be easily overlooked by anyone looking for something smart and stylish.

Apotheon eschews modern expectations, reflecting a far older brand of storytelling.

Sadly Apotheon’s gameplay can’t deliver what the wonderful art design promises. Although the mixture of RPG-, Metroidvania- and classic platformer elements are solid and definitely enjoyable, the controls are clunky, the exploration is hardly rewarding and the combat system – while tactical by nature – often dwindles down to button-mashing.

Apotheon looks beautiful, but it loses its charm in mere 15 minutes. The beauty can’t save the shoddy game design.

Apotheon offers goodIf you re fond of game old SNES classics like Castlevania old Metroid you will be extremely pleased with this game. Apotheon offers good balance of engaging story, platforming, fighting and puzzles all wrapped up in breathtaking art style inspired by Ancient Greek pottery. Despite the fact that it was developed by small studio, Apotheon has great production values including polished gameplay, amazing soundtrack and AAA quality of voice acting. Single player offers about 10 hours of gameplay and based on difficulty I dare to say that both hardcore and more casual player will be satisfied! Plus - You can still try to compete in multiplayer with your friends! Expand

People will tell you that this is all done before, but no, usually games and movies with similar source of inspiration will completely ruin the original material. Apotheon surprisingly respects the myths and the personas of deities and other mythological characters and creatures. And the result is pretty fantastic.
Platforming is solid and easy, with context sensitive features that help out climbing ledges. Combat is very fun once you get used to the controls. Every weapon is a throwable, and you can also throw rocks and explosive jars to enemies. Boss fights feel unique and well thought out and the various areas for each God offer wide diversity and keep the game interesting.
The main campaign also feels huge, and there is also a cool local vs mode, but you will need two controllers to enjoy the latter one.

There's a bit of crafting, a lot of fighting and quite some diversity when it comes to weapons and how they change the play style. So far I would say 8/10, the score could improve if I'm more into the game. Expand

It pluzzes me how the latest Shantae, a fully fleshed 2D metroid-esque game with so much care and polishing put into and actually good level design has worst review than this glitchy mess. I guess people got over-excited with the "original" graphics, but the recticule all over the game gets annoying fast. It's like a mobile game with a few more content than expected from a free-to-play game. Expand
