Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is a great follow-up to The New Order, adding plenty of adventures for BJ, not to mention new enemies, weapons, and more. Throw in the Nightmare stages and you have a compelling package with great value for your money.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is a short but intense experience that happily blends the innovation of The New Order with the tradition of Return of Castle Wolfenstein.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is an incredibly fun standalone expansion to one of the Best games of 2014, and in plenty of places is tougher.

The Old Blood feels like two Wolfenstein games mushed together. The first half of the game is really good, but the enjoyment is truly lacking during the second half, when you’re fighting against bullet-sponge-y enemies and endlessly spawning zombies. [June 2015]

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is an old school FPS game, with frantic and intense gunplay, good variety of guns and some strong cliffhangers. However, has some AI enemy problems and poor stealth mechanics.

Old Blood is a good expansion to a great game. I wanted more Wolfenstein, and that’s exactly what I got here. Sure, it’s neither as inventive nor as heartfelt as New Order, but it’s a solid piece of content that’s still leagues better than most shooters. If you liked New Order, I’d recommend checking it out.

All in all, the series could have done without this expansion. It is far cry from last year’s awesome Wolfenstein: The New Order, and if you’re itching to shoot Nazi zombies, better look in Zombie Army Trilogy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sooo. How do I start? This game was awesome. I played The New Order (Which was amazing) and asked for more. So they came out with a prequel. I was oh so excited! I didn't watch any walkthrough or easter egg hunting, and found EVERYTHING. The start was a bit bland and boring but further on, **** got real. Phantom zombies? I did NOT expect that. I loved the ending boss cause it was challenging and you needed to throw everything you could at it. And there. My review. I seriously recommend to play this BEFORE The New Order, if you're not a Full-Time Wolfenstein player. But, you can choose whatever order you want. 10 out of bloody 10. Expand

That said, it is a treat for longtime fans of the series, reintroducing the infamous mountain castle from which the series takes its name, hidden levels from the original Wolfenstein 3D, and occult elements that defined Return to Castle Wolfenstein and the 2009 game. It is also significantly more difficult overall given a dearth of health and armor upgrades, but to some degree this enhances the sense of desperation that sets in over the course of the campaign. There are several new and useful new weapons, most notably the "Kampfpistole", a single-shot rocket launcher with significant potential against both groups of weaker enemies and the armored Supersoldaten. Both this game and New Order had an odd audio problem wherein in-game sounds were only played through the left ear, while cutscene audio worked in both. In addition, this game suffers from frequent, jarring freezes, though not once did these freezes actually crash the game. If you enjoy Wolfenstein in particular I can recommend this game, but if you are looking for something more, I would direct you instead to The New Order. Expand

A very tedious stealth section followed by around 4 chapters with basically no scenario and no events, just boring concrete corridors with hundreds of enemies. It felt more like challenge maps than a proper campaign. But then, halfway through the game you finally get out of the castle, and suddenly the game becomes interesting. You meet some characters, there's some tangible objectives, environments get more diverse, you meet new enemies and even get a chapter with a different gameplay mechanism.

Technically the game is still impressive. Looks and runs great. The only problem is the 60fps cap, and that's a shame because it would have been a great game to showcase 144hz monitors.
