Players are plunged into the action thanks to the exclusive IRISZOOM Engine which offers an intuitive interface that allows for smooth, rapid transitions from a birds-eye view of the entire conflict, down into the heat of the battle and vice versa. In R.U.S.E., players use their brain as the ultimate weapon, fighting a war of perception, where the ability to deceive and mislead the enemy determines success. A first in a strategy game, R.U.S.E. promises to reinvigorate the genre by using deception to give new-found depth to the game play. [Ubisoft] Expand

  1. R.U.S.E. might be the best RTS released this year, and it is certainly the most original.
  2. What I do know is that it's fun, and while the multiplayer is unlikely to pull a huge crowd away from StarCraft II, it's absolutely worth a look for any RTS fan who has a friend to play with.
  3. Compelling, slick, handsome. The predictable campaign and so-so skirmish AI are mere flesh wounds.
  4. With a much lower pace than its competitors, in favor of its truly strategic (rather than tactical) approach, R.U.S.E. provides large-scale battles filled with subtlety, twists, and finesse, for its solo adventure and multiplayer alike. Its system of ruses, most notably, is absolutely brilliant for building up effective attack and defense strategies, especially when you're able to keep most of your real intentions concealed up to the very last minute. It's a game one needs to approach from afar, with the intelligence of a general, and a real soft gem in a world of brutish RTS games. It's a really different alternative to StarCraft II that really deserves attention, if only to discover another way to wage war.

But if you stick with Ruse in spite of these things, and if you can talk some of your friends into playing from time to time, you're going to discover a thrilling new real time strategy game that belongs in the same category as EndWar, Brutal Legend, and Darwinia.
  6. 70
A perverse dichotomy; RUSE either goes too far, or not far enough.
  7. Its creative "evil mastermind" plans are undone by dull pacing, too smart AI and enormous maps. Don't be fooled. R.U.S.E. has some good ideas under its hood, but it's overrun by smart AI and bad battle pacing.

It's not about APM or micromanaging units. It's about developing and executing a better strategy than your opponent. Isn't that what a strategy game should be about? Like most RTS games it primarily about MP or skirmish against the AI. The campaign teaches you the basics of the game so it serves it's purpose. One of the "professional" reviews didn't even mention MP until the site's editor forced the reviewer to do so (Joystiq). Expand

Many a RTS, such as SW: Empire at War, Company of Heroes, Sins of a Solar Empire, I've sighed in disdain at the lackluster skirmish AI, I would always find myself searching for an AI mod to make them more challenging. On RUSE, id be afraid to do that, for the AI may become self aware. The skirmish AI on easy provides a challenge, which makes things all the much better when I play against the hard AI. And as for multi-player battles, well the deception and strategy that goes into playing is astounding. There are limitless ways you can go about crushing your enemy, which greatly appeals to me, and many RTS gamers in the community. I for one see RUSE as the best RTS this year, with large gorgeous maps, wonderful unit selection, and brilliant strategy, it truly is one of the best RTS games to be released in over a decade, hands down. Those who disagree can lay 'neath the mighty tread of my Pershing. Expand

Was buggy at release and it still is. Ubisoft gave up support for this game after about 6months which is an absolute shame. Looking at developers Eugen Systems giving such excellent support to their wargame franchise togetter with Focus Home Interactive, I dont even dare to imagine how good this game could have been with decent support.

The campgain is ok,nothing amazing. Ruse really shines in its multiplayer with 7 nations to play as and over 12 ruse cards to pick from.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is really good. I started playing just after midnight and couldn't stop till morning :) I have around 15 years experience in gaming so can tell you its raw good strategy with very decent graphic and super multilayer. Just wonder why "professional" magazines giving for it 80 or 50 ( SIC ! ) I hope meta critic will finally sort for only few decent magazines not childish e-gaming "wannabe" Expand

Most of the heavier criticism is leveled against a sluggish campaign and the "slow" speed of the battles. It simply does not do the game justice to stop there. Battle speed, for one, is very relative in R.U.S.E. as battles are frantic and energetic when zoomed in while managing one particular spot on the front. From a more â Expand
