If you like Metroidvania games and the Child of Light/Ori and the Blind Forest atmospheres, Song of the Deep’s gonna give you a lot of satisfaction.

A beautiful adventure under water, with a touching narrative, immersing the player in a dreamy fairytale Metroidvania.

Song of the Deep doesn’t simply shine in one place more than another because there are so many elements that all come together to make this game truly fantastic.

Enchanting and charming, Song of the Deep is a children’s-fairy-tale-turned-video-game that’s full of wonder and vibrant beauty. The gameplay is both solid and enjoyable, but not without hiccups and hindrances.

Song of the Deep is an action-adventure metroidvania that doesn’t go deep in the gameplay mechanics, but indeed goes deep in the journey underneath the sea.

Song of the Deep is a very pleasant but mostly unoriginal game. It's pretty but not as much as Ori and the Blind Forest, the weapons are cool but not as inventive as in other games of the same studio. Still - this underwater adventure is worth your time but it could use some polishing.

As heroine dives deeper, she keeps seeing new undersea wonders. Too bad that many paths are blocked off by various hazards – but for every hazard there is a mean to bypass it, and crab will happily sell Marin necessary upgrades for coins she finds. It’s worth mentioning that there is no predetermined order to this – you can choose which new abilities you want right away, and which can wait their turn. [Issue#212, p.62]

The story, the music, the puzzles, the controls... all in this game is about flowing movements, which make you feel free and integrated in the environment, constantly surrounded by the music, which does not feel boring but mesmerising. Perhaps the game could have more types of enemies, and the final bosses could be a bit more difficult. Anyway, I´m really sick of violent bloody games and bad playability these days. This game is old school, not very difficult but enough challenging to keep you going deeper into the map. It reminds me Ori, and I would like more games like this. Congratulations to Insomniac. They made a game for my inner child. And after playing it, he feels grateful. Expand

I was wrong. It's an enchanting story about a girl who built a rickety submarine to look for her missing father. I don't want to give too much away but I assure you this game is up there with Ori and the Blind Forest. (And I don't even know who created the game...) Expand

I was also not really a fan of the art style. The whole thing just felt a little amateurish, especially considering the pedigree of the studio.
