I was once fascinated with Micro Machines, but Toybox Turbos is a great game in its own right, not just as a stroll down the memory lane. [01/2015, p.71]

Toybox Turbos might not have the Micro Machines branding then, but when it nails everything else that those licensed games did so well in the first place, it feels churlish not to look past such superfluous things.

If you loved the old Micro Machines, Toybox Turbos is the title you've been waiting. Funny, competitive and graphically inspired, is only lacking in courage, not offering anything new compared to the original series which is deeply connected.

It works as a Micro Machines spiritual successor, but we recommend to try it first, since it might doesn't appeal those who doesn't feel that nostalgic or no longer play with friends offline.

It's hard not to see the ways in which this could have been more ambitious, more innovative in the way it dusts off the past, but equally it's hard to blame Codemasters for simply giving Micro Machines fans exactly what they wanted, just how they remembered it.

A fun but very short return to Codemasters’ arcade roots.

As it turns out, Toybox Turbos is just a boring, simplified clone of Micro Machines, Codemasters’ old hit.

The online mode is amazing and has almost no issues even with other players having high pings.

    Would recommend for everyone.

The powerups are back to the one shot kills (like in V3) as opposed to the multiple shots required in V4 that Supersonic introduced. Music is jumpin and a modern take on the classic tunes. The coins system sueprisingly works well. A great return to form after the lacklustre V4 and the mundane PS2/xbox micromachines game. Runs great on my laptop, no dropped frames. Expand

Very frantic and lots of shouting.

The single player has some great levels, and the mode where you are chased by a giant wall of blue energy has that " just one more go" feel!

    Definitely recommend this game!

The tracks are well balanced, the camera follows the general direction of the race, it's a bit easier for new players to jump in and have fun... For 15€ here in France, it's a must have if you like quick sessions of play... A final word for the online mode, really stable and no lag so far... Totally worth the money for me, and perhaps the only game I own I'll gladly pay for DLC ... Expand

However, as this is instead masquerading as a 'proper' game at £11.99, and has 80% of the game modes removed from Multiplayer, I feel ripped off to say the least.
Massively disappointed, but then this is Codemasters, so I should have known better...
