  1. A great combination of real-time strategy with a primary focus on team tactics and intense 3D action.
  2. Captures the essence of a war movie better than any other game I have played, with the possible exception of the original "Close Combat."

There's not enough excitement here to keep you interested.

On the one hand it has a terrific atmosphere and a style that fans of the movie will most likely adore... Yet on the other it is exceedingly frustrating thanks to the lack of an in-mission save feature.

Mediocre. Fans of the setting may enjoy it, but not too many other folks will. [Feb 2001, p.81]
  6. Nice visuals and nifty RPG elements help to spice things up, but can't save this game from the quicksand of mediocrity.

Decided it didn't want an in-game save function and forgot to add multiplayer, a skirmish mode or the ability to change the level of difficulty.

My system specs are P4 1.3 Ghz, Video card: Nvidia Ge force 3, OS: Windows XP I had a problem with getting this game to run in XP, but i got My system specs are P4 1.3 Ghz, Video card: Nvidia Ge force 3, OS: Windows XP I had a problem with getting this game to run in XP, but i got it to work by following this advice: Blarhg of thegoblins for game support go to http://www.atarisupport.com/newfaq/starshiptroopers.php? browser=1&issueNum=1151&osType=WINXP&pageDisplay=MAIN#faq_prodissues they have fixes for Windows 98, ME, 2000, and XP. I downloaded both the 1.1 patch and the Nvidia patch in the Windows XP section. I used a combination of both patches to get the game to work. Copy FONTS folder from troopersfullpatch11.zip overwriting the one in game directory. Copy D3d.dll and startroopers.exe from troopersfullnvidia1.zip overwriting the ones in game directory. I hope this helps those struggling out there to get this game to work. I've only played two missions so far and I had a lot of fun. Good eyecandy for a game done in 2000. Expand

BUT, I bought this game for 40 when it came out, and I'm still on the mission called "Classified" because as soon as I call down my Dropship, it changes my objective to "Save trapped scientists", which I have already done, and when it does that, I can't enter my dropship. And the patch didn't fix that... so now I'm stuck with a $40 frisby, and that is what took away from the game in my opinion. Expand
