Fight, level up, explore, conquer, build. Even after 20 years this still manages to glue you to the screen. Incredible.

Gameplay-wise, Might & Magic Heroes VII is arguably the "best of the series" game its developers set out to create. However, the experience is marred by inexcusably sluggish performance at times (even in high-end systems equipped with SSDs), and also by the rather uninspiring generic fantasy setting of Ashan, that still can't measure up to the majesty that is the "original" setting of the Might and Magic universe.

It does nothing to innovate the series, going back to its roots and eliminating most of the changes made with heroes VI. It's good, with a long campaign and the usual beloved gameplay of old, but it has no courage. None at all.

Heroes 7 has a number of problems that completely ruin the experience.

If you’re a fan of the franchise, and if you really want to play Heroes VII, then I’d recommend waiting for another month or two, until some more patches have come out and maybe the price has dropped down. If you don’t know anything about the franchise, then Heroes VII definitely isn’t the right version for you to use as your introduction. For you I’d recommend trying out just about any other version of the game, since most of them can be purchased for very little money these days.

It manages to scratch a very old PC gaming itch, at least between the awful cutscenes and performance problems.

As a reviewer, I was bored, as a gamer I was confused, and as a fan, I was disappointed. Ubisoft’s indifference for a long-running and beloved series is a problem, and I hope they realize that.

Nice long and motivating campaign containing all 6 factions (haven, sylvaner, dugeon, stronghold, necropilis, academy), offering up to 125 creatures, 100 spells, 60 hero abilities to master and really beautiful 3D graphics (unreal 3 engine). With the return of townviews (in calssic 2D) and again 7 resource types as well as interactive maps and a lot of multiplayer options (online, LAN, hot seat and skirmish) plus an editor there´s so much time to sink in thsi great strategy fgame that I wish I had a few weeks of holiday left....
    A must buy!

The graphics are quite good and the campaign mode is much more entertaining with the addition of map events. Combat is fast and various with a great number of creature types.
The music is excellent, in particular the town themes.
I don't give 10 only because of the 2D town screens and for the amount of bugs.
Recommended for old-date players of the series and for newcomers.

I have played this game since the first release, so I was really looking forward to this release.

I bought the game, played it for 20 minutes and I havent touched it since.

The graphics are substandard and poorly optimised, the gameplay is sluggish and not engaging. The combat mechanics is poor. A major stepdown from Heroes VI in every regard.

I cannot empathize enough: Do not spend your money on this.

A LOT of creature has same ability like others ex : medusa, currassier, earth elemental will incapacitate unit with their critical hit, and a lot of other example that make this game units feels less unique compared to old HOMM game. Not to mention that some creature has useless ability and has limited role in battle while some other are too powerfull and can take multiple role in battle.

And the AI, oh... i don't even want to talk about it.

Horrible, bug-filled mess. Seriously, I encountered MULTIPLE game-breaking bugs without even trying to do anything out of the ordinary. DidHorrible, bug-filled mess. Seriously, I encountered MULTIPLE game-breaking bugs without even trying to do anything out of the ordinary. Did they not test this at all?

Also, the campaign is terrible. You generally don't get to keep a character for more than one map, so spending time on learning spells, visiting map objects, or leveling up doesn't hardly make sense. For me anyway, in previous HoMM games, improving the main character is the main driving force behind the campaign.
