The Battle of Red Cliffs was regarded as a great milestone in the Three Kingdoms period. In July, 208 AD, after pacifying the north, General Cao Cao mustered his troops and headed south with the intent of unifying the realm. After a series of quick victories Cao Cao had become so arrogant that he completely underestimated his rivals Sun Quan and Liu Bei, and failed to take advantage this precious opportunity to unify the realm. On the contrary, he suffered a huge defeat even though his crack forces greatly outnumbered the opposing forces. After the Battle of Red Cliffs, the division of the realm into three parts began to take shape. [Strategy First] Expand

  1. On the whole, it’s a good game that will keep RTS fans happy whilst at the same time brings enough RPG elements to keep things fresh and interesting.
  2. Rich in graphical details, and sporting a classic player interface, Dragon Throne is a solid addition to the lineup of strategy games.
  3. A cursory glance at Dragon Throne often urges people to write it off as an "Age of Empires" clone. However, it is a sophisticated RTS title and handles its many layers much better than comparable RTS titles.
  4. It's just not very distinctive.

By the time you've learned the mysterious mechanics, you'll be bored with the game. [August 2002, p.71]
  6. The graphics are very dated, and aside from some of the complications and innovations it has a pretty old school RTS feel.

The maps look boring, the units have few and bland animations, the sounds are awful, and someone seems to have forgotten combat effects. [July 2002, p.69]

I also like the way you can put the men on and off of the horses and use the horses to pack supplies. Expand
