Those who know him call him Snake; the legendary mercenary who was once swept from the stage of history and left in a coma by American private intelligence network Cipher. Snake is accompanied by Ocelot, an old friend who saved him from attack when he finally awoke.

Now, Snake's former partner Kazuhira Miller is being held by the Soviet forces in Afghanistan. Snake must undertake a solo mission to rescue Miller and prove to the world that the legendary mercenary is not dead and gone. That first step will lead to a path of vengeance against the very Cipher that slaughtered so many of Snake's men, and to a battle that will embroil the whole world...

What started in Ground Zeroes must finish with "V".

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the best playing entry in the series, and while it’s not going to wrap up the entire story in a neat little bow, it’s a technical marvel that works beautifully as a playground for espionage.

Metal Gear Solid V is the best playing game in the series by a long shot. You choose where and how to do missions, and if sneaking isn't your thing that's fine too. The base-building is a good addition, and ties into the story and world superbly. The story is a slow burn, but goes out with a bang.

It might not be the best Metal Gear Solid game ever released, but it's certainly the bravest and most interesting. [Oct 2015, p.53]

Flawed in many, many ways, but none of those ways impact a glorious, emergent, open-world experience.

Metal Gear Solid V is amazing at times, and I enjoyed playing it, but there are so many embarrassing blunders and contradictions. Rich tactical gameplay vs an almost dead world. Fun HQ management and interesting characters vs an unfinished narrative and boring side quests. In some regards, this is a huge step back from previous Metal Gear games.

They missions are fun and well designed.Open world gameplay fit well with MGS style.
The cutscenes are epic as **** the characters are deep and interesting.Troy baker done a damn voice job again,Mother base let you keep your own crew to develop weapon or go on missions. The enemy AI is pretty smart. They know how to find you and eliminate you. There is so much fun messing around in the battlefield and mother base. The whole game is just addictive that will makes you don't want to leave you computer for weeks.
Still exploring the game, but in my scale this game is already the best game I played this year, even better than Witcher3(I cannot believe).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I decided to pick up Phantom Pain because it's a Kojima made game. The graphics are kick ass, and the story is solid, but it went completely downhill in the second part. The game-play's a streamlined third Person shooter that's done well.

Metal Gear is known for the compelling story. I don't follow the series closely, but it doesn't take a fan to realize that the second part of the game is complete **** The story are divided into two parts. The first one was pretty epic, and it's what you'd expect out of an MGS game. The second part felt like a monotonous chore. As they're a series of mini-games you're forced to play, in order to unlock important scenes. It's evident here that Kojima's a victim of a strict budgeting by Konami.

Characters are interesting, some are left upon interpretation. However they all fit into the Metal Gear World. Some characters do serve allot of purpose to the game if you make the right choices, like that sniper chick (check out her actress, she's fine as hell).

Another new feature is the ability to customize almost all aspects of your command base (Mother-base). This adds a nice dimension to the game. If the game's at online mode, other players can steal and blow **** up at your base.

Credit is due to the design of the game. Weather you're new to the series, looking for action or just innit for the story (1st part still awesome). Phantom Pain lets you play the way you want to. I like to go Weapons-Free and the game won't punish you for it. The detailed stories are set aside as cassette tapes, for the players to listen to.

After 150 hours of (mostly) grinding the game just fell apart.

It's a pity. All the finished puzzle pieces are brilliant... but it's obvious that half of the pieces didn't make it into the package in time. Like in Peace Walker the lack of content was solved by duplication. And so the missions become highly redundant very soon and the game starts to feel like dull work. Especially if you are a completionist type and want to finish all the 167 (!) side missions like "Save the prisoner 1-15" which bring you back to the same game areas again and again.

On top: After some time the game wants to be played online... and its constant reminders to do some online grinding start to become an annoyance.

The biggest problem is the story though. While it manages to squeeze between "Peace Walker" and the MSX classics Metal Gear 1&2 it ends very abruptly with a trolling finale and many unfinished story arcs started within the game. Today we know that many important (but costly) missions, cutscenes and even the final third chapter were cut from the game as Konami obviously pulled the plug from a game which had become too expensive to develop further.

So... after investing so much livetime in this game I'm really disappointed.
I dived into the Metal Gear series only recently... in the last months I played Metal Gear 1&2, MGS1-4 and I adored every single one of them. Just Peace Walker was a let-down as it was already a livetime killing grind-fest like now Metal Gear V - but at least it felt complete at the end.

Maybe producing and game design shouldn't be done by the same guy, Hideo-san.
In this case it feels like the designer in Hideo Kojima won over his role as a producer and the designer wouldn't let go of his dreams... then time and money ran out and so his "Magnum Opus" stays unfinished now.
    A pity. :(

    -Poor story

    -Disappointing boss fights
    -Cut out game content
    -Plain and boring environment
    **** tapes

-Not enough time to develop all your stuff due to cut out content, weaponry is very limited despite having many options, and many more!

Overall I didn't get bored in the game, but it lasts for 20 more hours than necessary and it's VERY disappointing from a lore perspective, one of the things that were awesome about this saga.
