Impressions from IAA 2016

Just as every two years, we have visited IAA Commercial Vehicles 2016, the largest European trade show of transportation and logistics industry. Transportation expos are not as loud and crowded as major games industry shows, but they are in many ways even more impressive. This business is highly competitive, and especially the big manufacturers are ready to invest a lot to make sure their vehicles look the best.

We have walked the floor for three days, looking for inspiration, taking tons of photos, but most importantly, working hard to grow our list of contacts with the industry.

We also wanted to see what the guys from TralerVue managed to build using our Euro Truck Simulator 2 to show their turn-assist camera system. They did a really great job, and we were happy that their interactive stand pulled quite a crowd all day long.

We were tweeting photos from the show in real-time and reposting to our Facebook, but chances are some of our readers will appreciate a short photo report from the event here on this channel.

Steering Creations Pack + giveaway!

TL;DR summary: We've released a new DLC and you can get it for free!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIQ02rdUvx8

A week from now the biggest European truck show - the 66th IAA Commercial Vehicles expo - starts in Hannover, Germany. We are going to walk the show floor in force, trying to network with manufacturers and taking as many reference photos of every interesting vehicle as we can.

Before the show starts, we're planning to release a couple of DLCs as a bit of a social experiment. We hope that it might turn into something of a case study on the engagement of the truck sim fan community in the industry as a whole; which would make a great talking point that we can use when we approach brand owners and try to teach them about the benefits of having their officially licensed products appear in our games.

Today with the kind cooperation of Steering Creations, Inc. we are releasing DLC featuring a wide selection of their custom steering wheels for American Truck Simulator. We met the SCI guys back at MATS 2016 in the spring when we were admiring their unique steering wheels that were on display there. Turned out they knew our game very well and were actually curious if there were any opportunities to have their products make it into ATS.  We agreed that this could be of interest for some of our players, and that it might also make for a very interesting PR experiment. So here we go:

We are about to launch a huge giveaway of activation keys for the Steering Creations Pack DLC - in fact, we're offering a whopping 30 thousand keys to American Truck Simulator players. To qualify for this time-limited giveaway we're asking you to visit or follow American Truck Simulator and Steering Creations on Facebook and Twitter. If you're among the lucky first 30,000 you'll get the Steering Creations Pack for free! Meanwhile on our end we can measure the impact of this test and if our 'experiment' garners enough attention it will give us one more argument to bring to the table during licensing discussions in the future. Have fun!

To join the giveaway, plese visit our blog: http://blog.scssoft.com/2016/09/steering-creations-pack-for-ats.html

Alternatively, you can buy the DLC here:

Bought this game while the steam sales were running and because i loved ETS2 so much (and trucks and AMERICA ofcourse :D), and i have no regrets, this game is just like ETS2 AMAZING, the scenery and gameplay are both just soo damn good, this game really makes you feel like an american truck driver (even tho ur not living in america, and you dont really own a truck :P). I just love this game soo much SCS has done an amazing job, hope they will add more trucks and states to the game, because at this point there aren't that many trucks and states, i must say tho the trucks in this game are soo amazing too, the peterbilt and kenworth trucks makes it feel american. So if you wanna have a fun afternoon, night or just want to play a good simulator game while its rainy outside (or while its even sunny :D) i highly recommend you buy this game :)!.

Pros:
-Amazing Gameplay.
-Amazing Scenery.
-Feels Real.
-Cool looking gas stations.
-Actually has Tumbleweed in the game.
-Has ingame radio stations (for amazing truckers music while ur driving down the interstate).
-Amazing Trucks.
-Made by one of the best dev team!!!.
-WHOLE GAME IS JUST AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING.

Missing:
-Really needs SNOW in the game ETS2 didn't have it but MURICCA should have it.
-AI needs to be pulled over too by cops, because i think some of them are driving while they had a couple of beers.

97/17 Would buy it again only for the Tumbleweed.

Fantastic trucking game. To keep it short, it's like ETS2 but in America, and seeing the postitve responses to ETS2 just shows how good this game formula is. Even if you aren't too interested in simulators this can be fun, it's only $20 as well, basically a must have for everyone out there. Word of warning though, this is a lot younger than ETS2, so it has a lot less content than ETS2 (but still tons of mods) more will come with time.

I would say that American Truck is almost the same as Euro Truck. What's different is the sceneries, trucks, trailers and of course the road. I personally like the game, but at the moment the game itself is getting boring due to its relatively small map and scale. But the dev are working on it so I guess it will be much more better soon. I would recommend buying this if you have already own Euro Truck. But if you are planning or deciding which to buy between american or euro, I would totally recomment Euro Truck first before American.

I sincerely recommending the demo to see what the game looks like. In the full version, you get 2x more stuff. Nevada is the best state in game. I always get tired driving around Califorina. Now I got the full game. Also I recommend you put the brake intensity to full. Just for sudden stops. Anyways 10/10. Love it. Would recommend to friends and family.

Love everything about ATS. I'm so happy that their keeping up with updates. But one thing I'm sure their going to do. I just wish we had more truck choices. Granted Peterbuilt and Kenworth are two of my favorites. But I would like to see Freightliner and Mack make into the game soon.

a laid back simulator i can go back to time and time again when i just want to chill and put on some youtube videos, preferrably "creepy pasta" and listen to my stories. this game plays at your own pace, has no set story mode or quest lines, it just a whatever you want to do and whatever you feel like doing kind of game. although if you feel the need to slam that car at high speed just because its a game, plz save first :)

Great game, reminds me of the days when I used to play Across America. Speaking of which there's a couple cool features they didn't include in this game that I miss. Talking on the CB or how trucks would honk back if you honked when they passed. Just little things but overall I love the game, can't wait for the rescale.

Do I recommend this at $20? No. At $10 or 15$? Yes, I would. I did buy it at $20 out of boredom, due to it seeming like a nice complement to my new real life job which gives me a different persective on trucking, but I am a bit disappointed with the game.

This is a much smaller product compared to Euro's counterpart. I knew this going in, but realizing that there is literally only 3 trucks to pick from is still a shock. That's hardly enough to be called a "simulation" of this career. You'll find yourself covering what little landmass they offer very quickly, as well. And if your goal is to play online, you'll find no more than 230 players on the USA server on average, which is hardly a replacement for the AI traffic that will be removed when you play with the multiplayer mod. There will be times when you pass through a city on routes, and see not one single vehicle on the road. That's a very lonely experience, despite playing online.

With that in mind, I suggest playing the American edition offline, with the REAL logo mods for the various signs, trucks, icons, etc to make the game seem like the real world. There's also a nice economy boost to speed things up (by slightly cheating), so you wont get bored before getting your fill of the game's world. You should definitely download the user-made Volvo truck model too. It's very impressive. I hope we see more trucks added by users, as it seems the developer is more focused on Euro's edition.

The experience otherwise is fine. It's no racing game. Play it casually, relax, take in the sights, listen to the internet radio stations, try to abide by laws for some challenge. The experience is fine that way. The graphics engine sucks though. Despite my GPU and no CPU cores getting taxed to any real degree, the game often chugs at 30fps in cities for no reason.
