Galactron Live Beta 3: Now Available!

The third Live Beta for Awesomenauts 3.3: Rise of Galactron is now available on Steam. Log into the game now and experience the new matchmaking system and new menu-suite, while we test the new Galactron system in the live environment.

We're using this test to identify any issues that might occur ahead of launch. If all goes well during this test, we'll allow the system to remain live overnight. That should give players who don't live in the Ronimo Games HQ timezone a chance to experience the new matchmaking system for themselves before it goes live.

Once this Live Beta ends, we'll process the feedback and bug reports that we've received, and prepare for a new Live Beta in the near future. Want to know how this Beta went? Tune in to the Streamisho on Wednedsay over at Twitch.tv/RonimoGames, for a full update on our progress!

Short Review
Pros:
-Good Multiplayer Gameplay, especially with friends/voicechat
-Balanced Characters, variety in choices of playstyle
-Fun gameplay
-Many updates so far
Cons:
-Bad multiplayer matchups. If you do not play with/against friends you will often be put against those in a different skill level by far. When I am playing by myself online, opposing team dominates us or we dominate them. There are few close games. Also, XP seems to aid players on winning team, putting the losing team even further behind.

This is a really great game as there are many characters to chose from so it'l take a while to get bored of the game, however the concept is somewhat lacking as there could be more game modes which would make the game so much better.

This is a game that honestly had a lot of potential. It's easily capitvating for most new players, the art direction is nice, it has charming characters, and has great music.
But Ronimo took it in too many wrong directions.

There's numerous balance issues that they've been too blind to fix and when they do actually fix them it creates new issues. Which means the meta is constantly changing and there's always going to be people who abuse this which can occasionally limit who I can safely play. When I'm in higher leagues I don't want to be discouraged from playing certain fun characters just because the enemy team picked an overpowered team composition, because at that point it's not fun anymore, it's just a chore to try to win.

Also I would like to point out that there's STILL features from the starstorm expansion that we haven't gotten (Even after releasing the overdrive expansion), and it's been what, 2 years? They hyped up the Starstorm Map so much and said it was gonna be super unique and have all these cool features, and we finally DID get it, but it was a bit underwhelming. It's certainly a well-designed map, but honestly I was expecting a lot more, considering how long it took to actually MAKE it.

Then we have the upcoming Happy Matchmaking Server, which is probably their biggest mistake yet. This is the kind of feature that would honestly work if the game had a larger player base, but something like this won't really do much for a player base thats <800. Their goal was to make this game a "casual-friendly" moba, but with the HMS coming up, it's pretty much becoming the opposite. And from what I've seen, the HMS itself doesn't seem to be fixing matchups that much, I've still been running into people across the world and people who are miles ahead/behind me in rank. The HMS as a whole makes me think they just copy-pasted from Overwatch, but forgot that they barely even have a fraction of the players Overwatch has.

This is a kind of game you'd probably enjoy every now and then, but don't bother trying to actively play it, it's slowly fading away and Ronimo is too optimistic to see that.

Dear ****** I've played HOW MANY hours?! I've never... ever... ever... played a game this long.

Let me tell you my journey. I bought this game after about a year or two of hating the idea of it. I thought it looked way too childish. But then it went on sale, and I was inhebriated, and I thought, "Why not."

I was instantly taken back to my days of discovering online competetive games like Soldat (before it was pay to play), and I was hooked. I wasn't nearly as good as I was when I was 10, taking on 14 opponents on my own, lobbing one hit kill grenades at them from half a map away without effort, but I quickly found myself sucked into trying to figure out which character's skills fit me best and how I could customize them each round to suit my needs.

Over the course of 1000 hours I felt a lot of things about this game. I am not a multiplayer game type of gamer, so it took me a few attempts to get used to resetting each round, and the nasty awful people who play all multiplayer games and blame everyone else for losing without actually providing useful advice drove me away from the game a number of times. I eventually learned to ignore the chatbox completely and just friend the players I thought played well, or who actually tried to work as a team. Suddenly I actually felt like I was having fun playing this game I payed for, and I steadily improved.

The community is BAD. Don't play expecting to make friends. That is it's biggest flaw as a multiplayer game. But that's a bigger issue altogether.

The game itself is complex and engaging, it's characters are mostly unique and intriguing. I rarely run into technical issues. I never wanted to admit it but I really love this game.

Basically the most fun you can have if you're willing to spend at least 1000+ hours to get even halfway decent at this game. Too many scrubs.

Only 500-600 players on average play this title.

THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH PLAYERS FROM WHICH TO DO TRUE MATCHMAKING. Rank 1 vs Rank 6's? pretty common.

This game looks cozy and sweet but it is actually a super hardcore, fast paced, team oriented, moba/fighting game. Every naut is unique and most does not follow standard rpg/moba classes. Unlike most mobas this is very much an easy game to learn, there is no need to memorize item combinations and no pregame mumbojumbo. On higher levels buildorders/knowledge is very much still a thing though because of upgrades that happen during the game. Skill ceiling is very high, the pace of this game is fast, not combarable to most mobas, closer to super smash bros, and there are a lot of small mechanical nuances to learn that separates pros from good players and good players from scrubs. Tldr - easy to learn hard to master

Sound is easily 10/10, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s of really catchy tunes and effects. The graphical style is eternal if a bit cheesy. The current balance is very fine, sometimes they go overboard with a new naut but it is often reined in a patch or two after release. The game is still in active development and generally patches makes the game deeper/more exciting rather than the dumbing down/shallowness that is popular in most games nowadays. It is possible to turn around a snowball, but it has been made much harder since the xp system (before xp system a single good player could often carry a bad team from a losing position, nowadays it takes an exceptional player or sudden effort from all team-members to carry a bad team. xp system is controversial, personally I think its better with team effort than two titans that have chewed on noobs dominating the pace of the game). Community is varied, a mix of the old breed of good gamers, some trolls, but also some from the hyper sensitive community and rage quitters. Biggest problem is lack of players and as a result matchmaking is a bit ♥♥♥♥ed, the players that are left have a standard of game that is generally higher than in most other mobas.

If you are thinking about getting this game then I can recommend keeping a positive attitude/open mind in trying to understand why you are losing. And stay close behind a team-member at all time, preferably someone that doesn´t die, at least until you figure out what is safe.

The expansionpacks are fun, but not required to play. Some people think that expansion-nauts are op, but that´s because they don´t know ♥♥♥♥, standard-nauts like froggy, derpl, skoldir, etc are often played or pre-banned in pro-tournaments. All nauts are viable, though most players become comfy with a couple of nauts and stick to them, pros are the same.

Infrequent updates with features no one asked for, imbalanced characters, horribly toxic community. Worth $1 on sale maybe. Also online multiplayer has horrible game-breaking lag.
