Really amazed at the positive reviews, but time for me to tip my hand into the pool. The gameplay is fantastic, and the work done by High Moon Studios is stupendous. Writing is unbelievably fantastic, and animations and character designs are beautiful to look at. Levels are also well designed, and the sounds and music is also really decent. Some hiccups here and there with the levels and creatures you have to fight, balance seems to be a bit off.

Now for the fun part.

There is no MULTIPLAYER FOR NEW USERS. Brother bought this for us when he ended up having IBS and Chrons attacks so there was something he could do to take his mind off of pain while in bed. After contacting support and trying whatever I could, there has still been no solution, and all current new users are reporting the same problem. Activision has stated it is due to microsoft's sign in software they use, and if true, I can understand they are beholden to them. Writing an entire new system would take a very long time, and could be very costly for minimum return. Problem is, it also can come at the cost of reputation.

The biggest problem I have is they do not display this information on the page, so any player who plays single then goes to play multiplayer just spent a whole lot for quite a lot less then what they expected. For that, and the fact they just released a new version on consoles and haven't done anything to fix any of this, I'd rate this game a thumbs down. Get it on console or on a 10$ or less sale.

Tl;Dr
Awesome story mode, cool graphics, some hiccups, but ¾ of the game does not work. Get at a major discount and you'll love it. If you pay full price or buy any DLC, and your gonna have a bad day. :P

EDIT: After about 6 months or so, the servers are finally fixed to allow new players. Highly suggest Escilation with buddies. Have some fun!

EDIT 2: Online matches seem to be down again. Might just be me, not sure.

Very soon once haters start realizing this system was put up, the reviews will be filled with negative ones. Before that happens, let me drop my opinion here. It's a great game at it's heart, it has an interesting storyline that makes you want to play through each chapter. The main feature here is it's brilliant multiplayer mode. Now you've probably heard of the hackers in this game, and yes, it's true. However the game has a thriving community which will guide you into friendly, hacker-free matches. Is it worth $60 though? No, I can not say this. However it would be worth it at any other price, so when the next sale hits, go for it!

If you loved War For Cybertron, you will love this one even more. Everything about this game is better than the first. You get better graphics, better gameplay, and the story is just awesome. It's a short game and I completed it on normal in about 6-7 hours. Some people miss the co-op campaign but I think it was removed for the better. Each character now has a special set of challenges that wouldn't have been possible with co-op. You really do get more diverse gameplay.

There are some features removed from War for Cybertron. Double jump no longer possible for some reason. Every transformer has the dash ability and sprint. There is a new feature that's a great idea, I feel. The teletraan 1 store appears in Campaign and Escalation mode. Basically, you have access to most of the weapons in the game, right off the bat. There are weapons that require you to find blueprints throughout the campaign. Once you find them, you can buy them with in-game coins. There are some weapon limitations. You can only have 1 standard weapon paired up with 1 support weapon at one time. Do you want to carry 2 rocket launcher type weapons at once? Not possible. This limitation might prove annoying to some, but I felt it created balance and I never felt the need for more than was given to me.

The multi-player mode is vastly improved and all the maps are fun. They are not too big but big enough to offer a challenging landscape. With endless customization everyone can have their own unique look.

All in all, this is an awesome game and High Moon did the Transformers community proud. It's got special touches that many older fans will appreciate. I highly recommend this game.

A very good video game representation of the G1 Transformers. The single player campaign has a strong plot which plays out a bitter war between the Autobots and Decepticons during the final moments of the planet Cybertron.

Game primarily playes like a 3rd person corridor shooter. Game was executed very well so the weapon and movement controls feel really good. Animations were well done and the robot to vehicle transitions look really good. The single player campaign will take roughly 10 hours or so on regular difficulty and consists of 15 chapters. The player does not get to choose which Transformer character they play through the game with the campaign regularly featuring a different character between chapters. Characters will switch between Autobot and Decepticon depending on which part of the story the player is currently playing and the game appears to feature equal time between the two factions. Difficulty on normal settings was neither too easy or difficult, but there were times that were a good challenge. Fortunately the checkpoint system was done well enough that you will not have to redo too much after defeats.

Many of the fan favorite characters are featured as playable or ally, and the inclusion of others like Metroplex, the Combaticons, Insecticons and the Dinobots were very welcome. Both the voice acting and the soundtrack were extremely well done. This helped create a good feeling of chemistry between the characters and sets the tone of the game.

The game does have a multiplayer feature which I have tried only briefly. It is cool to create a customized Transformer to do battle against or with other players. I understand that cheating does happen quite regularly but I am hopeful that this will not hurt the experience too badly. I will review this feature further as I play it more.

I had a lot of fun with this game and highly recommend it to those who are G1 Transformer fans.

If you don't know the difference between a Unicorn and Unicron, then this isn't the game for you, but if you do know the difference then this is a MUST buy. From a gameplay standpoint it is repetetive and I'll gladly put that down as a pitfall of the game, however the whole point of the game is to be one gigantic fan service that serves as a spiritual prequal to the Generation 1 Transformers series.

If you are a fan of the old transformers this game will have you drooling with fan service at least once in every mission, all the way from the huge cityboys of Metroplex all the way down to being full of Cesium Salami, or was it beryllium baloney? However the biggest fan service is in the ending credits, which I won't spoil because it makes finishing the game entirely worth it!

"This terrible war will reach its end. Not because all have finally become one. But simply, I fear, because all have become none." ~Ratchet

I'll start by saying i LOVE this game. It is absolutely a great Transformers game. As a Transformer-Fan or not you will enjoy this from start to finish. Now, heres my only problem. The campaign is soo broken, it's full of bugs, glitches, texture errors, which in most cases will not let you proceed through the campaign. I have come across a total of 9 glitches, 3 texture errors, and 1 bug (if you wish to, you can check my screenshots to see some of the glitches/bugs i found so far), by far the only solution i found was either exit my game (In one chapteri was knocked out to start a cutscene, instead i was knocked out but stuck on the ground, just looking around, cant move, cant do nothing, had to restart) or wait for the terrain to load up (Yes, in some cases it wont load correctly, so you will have to wait 5 minutes or so for the map to load, this depends on your computer), the AI is also a problem (Or at least for me), one time through the campaign an NPC supposed to help me to carry something, instead he decided to stay frozen while aiming to the sky, had to restart again.

Now i wont waste your time talking about the glitches, let's talk about the game it self. Let me tell you, it is awesome!. Probably one of the best Transformers game i have played in a long time. If you havent played the first game, i do not recommend going for this one, it may be a little confusing. The story is simple, yet perfect. Cybertron cant hold the civil war anymore, and both armies are running out of energon. A race for energon starts, the Decepticons find a rich energon planet (Earth), and soon find out that the Autobots will use the same portal to get there. Megatron is now trying to stop then from building the ARK, big space chase and they got ate by the portal. I dont really want to spoil you the game so i had to make this simple.
Through the campaign you get to play with Decepticons and Autobots alike. You will have to chance to play with some of the fan favorite like: Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, Bumblebee, Jazz and much more.
The level design is awesome!, it really is. At one mission you get to smash some Autobugs as Bruticus or smash 'Cons as Grimlock, (Yes, you will be able to play as Grimlock, but only on the campaign, unless you pay for the DLC to get him and his teammates for multiplayer). The backgrounds are also a nice thing, they really add some immersion to the game, big space battles, big buildings, big everything!, even Metroplex is here!, you can see and command him to destroy some 'Cons (Which is really fun to watch).
Now as i said, the campaign is really buggy, but that doesnt stop you from enjoying the game, since it really does depend on your PC (As for the terrain problems).

Multiplayer, i'm not into PVP that much, but that didn't stop me from playing. You get 4 game modes:
  • Team Death Match.
  • Conquest.
  • Headhunter.
  • Capture the Flag.
With 4 classes:
  • Infiltrators.
  • Destroyers.
  • Titans.
  • Scientists.
The coolest part about Multiplayer is that you get to make your own Transformers (Well, not really. Just combine a buch of parts from others to create a new one).

And finally my favorite, Escalation.
Been playing that since the first game came, it is simple yet pretty fun. Fight 15 hordes of Decepticons/Autobots with 3 lifes, buy new weapons, new rooms, and play as some of the characters. I only have two problems with the Escalation for this game, on the first game it was infinite waves, now it is 15 for all maps, which i really dont care, but still, feels empty compare to the first game, and you cannot play with your favorite character (If hes even there *cough* Bombshell *cough*) and your favorite map. For example, Shockwave is only playable on one map, you could like him, but not the map. Each map has 4 pre-selected characters to chose from. This bothers me because on the first game you could chose between all characters on a single map, i have no clue why this change, but its pretty late to update the game.

In conclusion, this game is really worth your time, you will have a blast transformer-fan or not. My final rating for this game is a 9/10. This could be perfect if it wasnt by those bugs on the campaign and problems with the new Escalation mode system.

Hands down the best transformer game I have ever seen. This is how you make a good use of a license to make a video game. The multiplayer is hands down so satisfying. Wish I pre-ordered this game and played when the community was at its peak( I bought this in 2015 plenty of hours suprisingly). This game needs to be re-released and have added multiplayer content. Dont change the combat at all or formula copy pasta to a T maybe add more ablities to pick from. I run around as grimlock only using the cannon in vehical form completly satisfied. I dont even play the class part just the vehical mode to be grimlock in dino form. This is everything right! Bring this back right and promote it more! Years later still relivant and functional with graphics to boot. Use nvidia control panel to make this polished gem shine more. Fun for all ages, just as brutal as it should be real transformers clashing. An over haul or added dlc dont fix whats not broken at all.
