Murdered: Soul Suspect is an interesting game. The gameplay mechanics are quite unique but the premise is fairly typical of a story with paranormal themes; a ghost partners up with the living to solve a series of murders. It's not mind-blowing but the way its handled in Murdered works quite well, mainly due to the decent voice acting, the supernatural abilities, and the clever art style that blends reality with a ghostly dimension.

The majority of the game is quite fluid and offers little challenge (in a good way) but I have to say that the action sequences feel forced and really bring down the quality of this game. They break the flow of the story and the combat itself is often imprecise and sloppy for what are essentially quick time events. I figure that what happened to Murdered is the same as with Deadly Premonition in which this is something that the publisher demanded of the developers, who reluctantly and haphazardly complied by shoehorning in some janky action sequences in the final hours of development.

If you're aiming for 100% completion I suggest collecting everything BEFORE entering the abandoned and decrepit house near the end of the game, as the final sequence will prevent you from collecting any more items within its level and there is no free-roaming afterward. I found this out the hard way, fortunately you can start a new game, collect what you've missed, and the relevant achievements will still unlock even if the collectibles counter has reset to zero.

It starts very smoothly and promising a lot of different interactions with NPC a lot of different stories ,but none of them playable . The story Climaxes insanely fast from a point after. The Ai of enemies is intriguing and a bit unfair that makes it so Good. You will spend a lot of time finding the missing clue that was quite obvious but the shading made it like a non important item. In general it could be a better game but it's ok 7/10

An interactive mystery novel gets a tentative thumbs up.
9-hour game could be a little shorter. It's interesting for up to about 5 hours.

+graphics, voiceovers, high quality.
+Neat ideas: walk through walls, mindread bystanders.
+Interactivity: Search crime scenes, select correct clues to progress story.

-Very little 'game' or puzzle involved.
-Some elements waste time: slow to listen to bystander thoughts, no option to skip to next dialog without skipping entire scene.

+great story
+you can pass the walls (you are a ghost) I complated all achievements and didn't see any bugs

İf you dont fallow achievements and try to finish the game directly, the game will be finish about 3 or 4 hours so I recommend you to play like you are a detective because story is good and you enjoy a lot like that.

I can't really recommend this game nor tell anyone not to play it. This is a particular game suited for those with a taste for ghost stories. In fact, I really wouldn't call it a "video game", but if it has to be labeled as such, just know that this game is a collection adventure to unlock ghost stories, while discovering parts of the main ghost story itself.

The game's basic idea: Walk around as a ghost, explore, collect "ghost memories (collectables)", and solve simple psychological puzzles from time to time.

Pro's:
It's not bad for what it is.
It's stories aren't distasteful, as far as ghost horror stories go, but don't expect a dark twist at the end or something incredibly cool (like 6th sense, The Others, or a double twist like Shutter Island). There is a twist (as there should be, in any good ghost story) but it's the most generic twist ever, so much so, I don't feel guilty for spoiling it. Still, when all is said, I can't really gripe too hard at the story, because it's a basic ghost/suspense story that's delivered quite well through interactive play.

Con's:
Really, there isn't a whole lot of things wrong with this, as far as the game itself is concerned. Although, it did have some issues with a 360 controller and my Roccat Tyon mouse (I had to disconnect the mouse to play). But, in all honesty, in a market that has been tapped completely dry, this game could have been so much worse. Also, I had to attach a -dx9 launch option for this game, seeing as my intel HD 3000 didn't recognize the forced dx11.

Final Thought: It's fun, but I can't recommend it to just anyone. It's nothing new in the genre and unless you are really digging the ghost stuff, in which you would have already gotten this, I can't recommend it. However, if you ARE into ghosts and goblins, then I will say you won't waste your money with this game, as there is A TON of bad ghost horror stuff out there that, luckily for me, this did not turn out to be.

Spoiler Alert: The main character dies. The good news is that it happens right at the start of the game. Then the game gets going. However, unlike some God of War clone this isn't a revenge fueled bloodbath of carnage and destruction. There isn't an ocean of "enjoy to destroy" cannon fodder to kill/loot on the way to the final boss. This is a supernatural redemption story in the vein of Ghost or Always with a dash of The Frighteners thrown in for a bit of fun.

The bulk of the game will be exploring mutliple crime scenes as you piece together not only the reason for your own murder, but the deaths of many fellow spirits that you encounter along your main quest. In some regards I am reminded of the forensic analyst role from Heavy Rain. Once you have gathered enough clues in the crime scenes you can attempt to discern the next location that your journey takes you. The good news is that, unlike Heavy Rain, this game does not rely on timing based quicktime events to tell the story.

However, the only real combat in the game does rely on a tried and true quicktime mechanic. This involves sneaking up behind the occasional demon and performing a stealth kill sequence to banish it. This involves a random quicktime sequence where you a flashed a direction to press along with an appropriate button/key. Not that deep.

TL;DR version: If you are a casual gamer that isn't looking to mindlessly button mash your way through a plotless demon horde this is a nice change of pace. If you want some thing procedural like the Kings Quest, Monkey Island or Quantic Dream created games (Indigo Prophecy, Heavy Rain, Beyond) then you'll enjoy the storytelling. It would really fit in nicely with that friend that owns all the Telltale Games titles. Just don't expect a lot of white knuckle fragging.

I had great fun with this game, the plot always had me playing to the next point to see what is going to happen. That said this is obviously a plot oriented game, everything you do is to further the plot or to give you more information that informs you in a direct or indirect way to what is happening, going to happen or has happened before.

Don't expect any 3rd person shooter action in this game, that is not what it is about, it is about finding your murderer and running away (and sapping) demons. So no shooting, only talking and running XD.

Okay now that that is all said and done, just a quick summary, it is a good game, definitely worth the money if you like mysteries. I would give this game a full rating but there were a few annoyances I had while playing.

The textures are quite crappy in most cases, especially if the cutscenes would zoom up to the people talking, then you can see just how non "high quality" the textures are, but that’s still fine, I can get use to that. But what bugged me the most was that to play the game I had to launch it 5 times every time -_- because the game would automatically flag itself if is set to be fullscreen, for some bloody reason, so I had to open the game, close it, open it, close it, flag it open and close, open and close, and just hope it will not auto flag itself afterward.

Now that said this game still gets a 4/5 from me :) enjoy, and hopefully you won't have the annoyance I did.

I enjoyed it. It's story was a little predictable, but I thought the feel and pacing of the game made it a worthy time sink. Don't think I'll play it again, but I don't feel like I wasted money.

Murdered: Soul Suspect is a game with a really cool idea, but with terrible execution. Even on sale, I couldn't recommend this game. (overall worth? about $5.00).

The idea of being a detective ghost, and getting the chance to investigate your own death is very cool. The writing is surprisingly good, and it didn't really feel cheesy. Likewise, the voice acting was pretty good and I didn't find myself hating any of the characters. Usually teen girls in games can be a little, overacted?

However, that's all that is good about the game. Any writing that isn't related to the main story was terrible. The little story snippets that you get are not scary, nor interesting. Yay, a guy bathed in nasty dead body water.

This is compounded by awful, and I mean awful, level planning and game design. Your ghost powers, which could be AWESOME, are hindered by invisible walls. In this case, invisible ghost walls that have no reason to be there, prevent you from taking better shortcuts, or are there just to make you weave through the miniscule levels in a particular way.

And then there are the demons, an utterly pointless addition to the game. All the way done with the investigations in a level? Well, lets just add some extra demons on your way out, to annoy you. Oh, how about some demon hand pits that you have to avoid. The only reason I can see for these being added to the game? To make the game feel longer. To make the final scene completable. Whoever planned this game, and designed the levels and town should be fired. This game is a perfect lesson in how NOT to make levels.

Then there are the pixel hunting items. Where you'll spend a few extra minutes per level scrounging around to find half invisible items that don't do much but give you a codex and a short voiced story after finding them all. Without these items, some of your ghost powers would be utterly useless. And many of these items don't contribute to the main story. Those items are real world items that don't use your powers. They could have done so MUCH with the reveal and teleport powers, but after getting them you use them maybe once or twice. But mostly only to get those silly little trophy items.

Also, any action in the game is dumbed down to quick time events. Yes, quick time events that don't even register your keypresses properly. It's a game of chance if the game decides to excorcise a demon. On top of this, you often have to kill multiple demons in a row. Failure to kill, sometimes resulting in death, makes you have to start all over again. Meaning if there are four demons, and you kill three, but your kid happens to distract you... Then you have to start the whole process of killing all four OVER again.

What a terrible game mechanic.

There were also still a number of bugs. The most noticeable were the freezing bugs, where when you go to "peek" through someones eyes, the game will not let you click anything. So, you have to restart and hope the same bug doesn't happen again.

Would I recommend this game? No. It's one of the most atrocious amalgamations of horrendous game design and mechanics on the market.

L.A. Noire on a smaller, linear scale.

You look through crime scenes, you question some people (but it's nothing sophisticated), you compare clues (but it's usually unclear), with some ghosty shtick like walking through walls, possession and sneaking up on or away from demons.

It's no AAA grand epic, but it's a very enjoyable 7-hour game.

I really thought I'd enjoy this game but I mainly didn't.
The story's not compelling, the character's are pretty cliché and bland, and I even find the main character a bit ridiculous at times with his ghost cigarette always on. There's a twist at the end I saw coming since the beginning but there's a very final one I have to admit I didn't but nothing to get really excited about either.
The main problem are the clunky mechanics. Holy ghost is it bad. You end up runing in circles ALL THE TIME because you missed a clue. But not because you didn't see it but because the game is poorly executed ! You see what seems to be a clue, get near it but no interraction possible. So you think it's not a clue and keep looking elsewhere. But it actually is a clue, only you need to be at the exact spot with the camera facing the exact side the developpers decided in order to get a command prompt. It happens literrally all the time and it's very annoying.
And I'd rathyer not talk about the demons phases which are the most frustrating and annoying things I've seen in a video game for a long time, it really got on my nerves having to start over and over again what, in my opinion, shouldn't even be in a game like that.
Also, the city streets are of no interest whatsoever. It's just empty corridors that get you from a mission to another with nothing interesting to do and filled with tons of useless collectibles. There's so many of them, I stopped reading entries after a while, it's way too much. It reminded me of the first Assassin's Creed in that way.
Graphics are okay and voice acting is pretty good though.

It's not a bad game per say, but it's not a good one either in my humble opinion. I didn't have a good time playing it and although it's only a 6 hours long story, I really was longing for it to end after less than 2 hours.
I had just finished Life Is Strange before playing Murdered: Soul Suspect, so maybe after playing such a masterpiece I was feeling particularly picky and this game didn't stand a chance before I even started. Anyway, whatever the reasons behind my feelings, I trully can't recommand that game except on a massive sale or part of a bundle, but 30€ is way too expensive for what it has to offer.
