8/10 – Russian review

Fixed the bug in which the save data was in the same folder as Tokyo School Life's save data.

To restore your save data for Malus Code, please follow these steps:

1. Go to
C:\Users\(PC name)\Documents\M2\
and backup the folder named “TSL”, and also the “MC” folder if it exists.

2. Make a duplicate copy of the previous save data folder:
C:\Users\(PC name)\Documents\M2\TSL

3. Rename the copied folder to
C:\Users\(PC name)\Documents\M2\MC
(If the MC folder already exists, please delete the existing folder before renaming.)

4. Start up Malus Code and continue playing as usual.

If you have previous save data from our other game, Tokyo School Life, the TSL save data may still be displayed in Malus Code. You can remove those saves by overwriting them, or just deleting them after following the above steps. The same applies to if Malus Code save data is displayed in Tokyo School Life.

Thanks for you playing, and we’re very sorry for the inconvenience caused by this bug.

Patch Notes: Malus Code Ver 1.02

We enclosed a complete save file for Tokyo School Life in Malus Code Ver 1.02.

This is a save file for Tokyo School Life that unlocks all of the content in the Extra menu, meant for those who lost their data due to the bug in Malus Code Ver 1.00.

・ Do not use this save data for Malus Code.

・ You will overwrite TSL's save data file (data_000_0000.bin), so please back it up in a safe location first.

1. Go to
C:\Users\(PCname)\Documents\M2\TSL\savedata

2. Rename the existing data as follows:

Rename
data_000_0000.bin
to
data_000_1111.bin

3. Locate the following file in the directory you installed Malus Code in (default path shown below):

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Malus Code\windata\tsl_complete_savedata\fdata_000_0000.bin

Copy fdata_000_0000.bin to the following folder:

C:\Users\(PCname)\Documents\M2\TSL\savedata

Then rename it to

data_000_0000.bin

4. Done!

Note: This will only effect the content in the Extra menu (music jukebox, gallery), so your save slot usage will remain the same as before.

I bought this for the smug loli. 5 minutes into the game find out that said smug loli is actually a smug shota trap who is also your senpai. Would buy again.

Very peculiar kinetic novel heavy on the slice of life and with just enough horror over the three 'codes' or acts to keep you hooked. You need to play it three times in order to get a better understanding of the plot, as the clues are scattered in the three routes (took me 4 hours in total). Each route is different from the others, and are in order Yuri's, Suzukake's and Yae's.
From what I've understood, while each route gives clues to the main mystery, they are all possible outcomes and there is no 'true' route. Some things are left hanging or get unanswered, which makes the puzzling together fun but a bit frustrating. But as the virus says, no matter how much we fail, we will always try to crack the code.
The characters are well established and consistent, and you get to know them really well in their own routes. The visuals are well done, with the e-mote system being smooth and truly giving life to the characters. There are plenty of CGs and they are partially animated as well.
The soundtrack was quite small but fit the scene well. Very good voicing!
It's a very polished product that occasionally breaks the fouth wall, has some memorable lines (almost everything that comes off Yae's mouth) and is intriguing enough to be finished in one sitting. It was different in a positive and welcome way, as to be expected by this publisher :)

This visual novel covers all it's bases. It has a Yuri route, a yaoi route, and a vanilla route.

A VN with nice artwork and the animation is made using the Emote engine (which was also used in the Nekopara series). The characters are cute and have some decent development, although I thought the story was rather convoluted at times. In some ways, its very similar to Tokyo School Life, in terms of plot (a foreigner coming to Japan, etc).
Too bad it is rather short (about 5-10 hours or so), but I guess I'm just saying that because I am used to long VN's. :-)
Anyway, if you liked TSL or Nekopara, then you will like this.

Wow this game is awesome at so many levels: it's animated, fully voiced, beatifully drawn lightharted VN with great OST. Even more, it could be educative, because you can have TWO languages on the screen at the same time - english + japanese or simplified japanese or romaji. That's amasing.

+Pretty nice story that starts slow, but rolls faster after some plot twists. But the whole novel is pretty linear, you have no choices to decide (Kinetic VN you dont say :) ).
+Beatiful girls is a big plus, plus one of the has D plus personalities :) All the girls are 3D that looks like 2D but they looks nice and also they are fully animated, and not only them, even scenes animated! And those scenes which are drawn in classy 2D looks so good, i cant get them enough in my screenshot folder.
+Bouncy bewbs physix ( * )( * ) <3
+Very nice voice work and very nice OST, great opening <3
+Steamcards with lovely smileys and backgrounds
-God damn trap kid is so ugly and annoying :*( Noooo. Well maybe its personal

After all it's a pretty nice timewaster if you not afraid of traps and like cute girls and spooky stories.

I was looking forward to this, since I liked Tokyo School Life. The graphics are just like it.

But...when the first chapter was finished, I was wondering, when I'll be able to make decisions and thought, oh well, I guess they want to introduce every character properly first, therefore a chapter for each person.

So, when chapter 3 was finished, I checked the start button and all, that happened, was a name change from "chapter 1" to "chapter yuri" and so on. That's it.

You can't make any decisions in this "game". I find the plot somewhat confusing and the game ended with many unanswered questions for me. Also, 5-6 Hours is kinda short.

I have only played the very first chapter of the story and i can tell it is well structured, it begins with a mysterious backstory that slowly becomes closer to the spotlight. Three characters each with their own personality and various quirks. Most visual novels I own aren't the best on the store, but this definitely is worth the money and I will definitely strive to finish it when I get the oppurtunity.

: There be minor spoilers ahead! :

Malus Code is a heavily flawed horror visual novel about a poorly described viral infection.

The characters are all good, yet incredibly stupid, twisting themselves around the labrynthian plot. You won't find an easy to consume or understand story in Malus Code. It seems to take twists randomly, which are great for humorous effect but don't make the game very compelling .

There are multiple times in the story where the plot sets itself up to study petri dishes, investigate odd medication, or check out strange ramen produced by a pharmaceutical company, but it never happens. It feels like this game was written quickly and haphazardly, and I urge you to pay attention and take note of everytime this game throws pointless red herrings in your face.

Just like Malus Code, this review has a twist in it. I highly recomend you buy this game and read it through. IT'S AMAZING. CHRIST. So funny. Be warned that there is no romance or the like, just unbridled so bad it's good.

You know, 'subtle games' does not mean 'unfinished games'.
I really liked sudden atomosphere changes or creepy elements and stuffs like that, but broken plots and hurried endings are not some things I can easily forgive.

And there is no real romance with Yae senpai, so ♥♥♥♥ you

Having recently finished Tokyo School Life which I enjoyed immensely, I was super excied to see another VN by Dogenzaka and so I charged right in. It's a very short novel just like TSL which I feel is a detriment. The story is a bit confusing and ultimately leaves you with more questions than answers (If you like that sort of thing then this is the novel for you). It doesn't help that instead of a steady flowing progression we get three different routes each unlocked after finishing the preceding route.

The art is exceptional, the music is good and the girls and hideyoshi are interesting.

Overall it's a short, fun experience that will probably leave you scratching your head but is well worth the read.

Too short for my taste, the story doesn't flow to well and it feels like at least one scene is missing. There's also stuff that just isn't explained, if you really want to try it wait for a sale. I'd say at least 50% for it to be worth it.

feelings through this game:
Oh hey look, they're all cute!
HOLD THE ♥♥♥♥ ON, THATS A TRAP?!
Yuri is literally the cutest thing ever.
cows? what? o_O
how is this a horror story?!
hey look! Destiny land!
ITS THE BUNNY FROM TOKYO SCHOOL LIFE!
What happened to Yuri?
ohhh, we about to get laid!
...WHAT THE ♥♥♥♥?! ?!?!?!?!

This game is literally so ♥♥♥♥ed up, and i love it. Sure, some questions are left unanswered, but thats the fun part about decoding this game. We can literally think anything we want happens by the end of the game, and it might be correct. (note my thoughts are mainly on the 'first route') people may hate this VN, and i can understand why people would dislike it. I personally love this VN, and i really hope they make a Malus Code 2 so we can fully solve this puzzle :)

I recommend it because Yuri is legit so cute! :D

This has to be a disgrace! I thought thew studio knows what they are doing since their previous project "Tokyo School Life" is much better.

I might as well pick up a book and read it. All VN have choices, branch path, selection. This one has none. You might as well put it on auto and just read the text. This is one big scam!

This is just basically a read out book with different character. It is horrible storyline.. Overall I do not enjoy it at all.

Refunding it after I post this

Fun VN to play. In this Vn u have three routes. U dont pick answers so u just read the VN.

The music, graphics, va, and BG was very nice. The characters are also animated and are nice looking too. This is the first VN that I played that some of the pictures u get are also animated which I though was pretty cool:) Another thing I liked is that u can learn more Japanese. U have the option if u want both Japanese/English text at the same time. Only other games at the moment I can think that u can have te Japanese language on also is Nekopara and Go Go Nippon.

There are about three things that I have a small problem with. i wish this VN had more horror elements. When the scary parts showed up those parts didn't last long.

I really wish that there was romance in this VN. It would of been nice if the MC went to the amusement park with Yae like he did with Yuri and Suzukake,

The last thing is that I feel like the game just ended and not to much is explained. I think this VN would of benifited by having one more route.

So all in all I still recommend to get this VN. Just expect the ending to make u go that's it? What happened? I wish that there was more to this VN.
