Insurgency Patch Changelist October 5, 2016

We are releasing a patch for Insurgency today that features all new Ambush scenarios, work in progress penetration-based armor, updated character models with equipment representation, competitive changes, and more.

All New Ambush Scenarios

We’ve changed the game rules as well as many layouts for Ambush, the goal being to revive the mode by making it more fun and competitive. The mode now always has a single extraction point, which changes each round. The added and updated scenarios have been added to the official tactical and competitive playlists. Please give us your feedback on the new layouts via our forums, and let us know what you think.

Work in Progress Penetration-Based Armor

We are currently working on penetration-based armor, which has now been introduced to cooperative and competitive modes in the game. When this is enabled, visible armor on characters function like real armor, instead of simply adding extra health points to the character’s chest/stomach area.

When we’ve received enough feedback and have had time to balance the damage model properly, we will introduce the feature to regular multiplayer. In the meantime, modders may enable the penetration based armor via theater files, and it may be tested on the cooperative and competitive playlists.

Updated Characters with Equipment Representation

Top to bottom: Heavy Armor, Light Armor, No Armor
Left to right: No Vest, Chest Rig, Chest Carrier

We have updated the player models in Insurgency so each character visually represents the armor and vest (or lack thereof) he is wearing. They have also been changed and improved visually, in particular the Insurgents and Security VIP. These character changes were necessary to pave the way for penetration-based armor.

Workshop creators please take note, these changes will break any mods with player model replacements. It will not break player retexture mods, however their clothing/look will be shifted around. The Security No Armor model will show up as a vanilla skin because of our changes.

Competitive Changes

We’ve updated the competitive playlist to include the new Ambush mode with all new layouts and implement an all new supply gain economy accompanied with new equipment loadouts and class templates. As rounds progress, players will earn supply, allowing them to use new weapons they might not have had access to at the beginning of the match. Supply is gained each time you capture an objective, or get 5 kills/assists. We have also added Skirmish mode to the playlist.

The new work in progress penetration based armor is also now included in competitive to give greater value to armor and a proper purpose to AP/HP rounds. Once you try it out, don’t hesitate to share your thoughts on how well you feel it works via our forums.

We are currently in the process of setting up anti cheat for the game. It will run for all of the game in comp, PvP, and coop. This is not yet ready to be implemented into the main game experience, but it is something we are currently testing among other things on our beta branch. If you would like to join our developer beta tests, be sure to join our the community group here to get an event notification when we have tests.

Full changelist is below:

Gameplay Improvements
  • Updated Player models.
  • Players models are now visually representative of their armor and gear choices.
  • New work in progress Competitive theater which includes penetration-based armor and supply economy.
  • Updated third person crouch leaning animations and crouch idle positions to line up better with where the first person camera is.
  • Raised Ambush player count needed for 2 active control points to 16 players.
  • When Ambush is in single control point mode, the game will now alternate between the two points rather than randomizing it.
  • New Ambush mode map layouts.
  • Added Ambush and Skirmish mode maps to the Competitive theater.
Fixes
  • Fixed score reset when mp_restartround is run on the server.
  • Fixed props disappearing in Verticality when shader settings are set to Very High.
  • Fixed SourceTV being unable to join full coop games.
Map Changes
  • Fixed a restricted area that allowed spawn camping in Buhriz Push.
  • Fixed a restricted area in District Push.
  • Fixed an invisible wall in Dry Canal.
  • Fixed miscellaneous issues in various maps.

Have fun, enjoy!

Multiplayer Game Modes:

Push --- Three territorial objectives must be captured by the attacking team in sequential order. For each objective captured, they gain more reinforcement and time to attack the next. Defenders have a finite amount of reinforcements and must use each wisely. Once the third objective is captured by the attackers, a fourth cache objective must be destroyed, while the defenders have only one life to make a last stand.

Firefight --- Three territorial objectives, one for each team, plus one neutral. Each team only respawns when they secure an objective. Secure all objectives or eliminate all enemy to win. Every life counts, making this a very suspenseful experience dependent upon teamwork.

Skirmish --- In addition to three territorial objectives, each team has a supply cache to protect. Teams gain extra reinforcement waves until their cache is destroyed. When both teams have lost their caches and all reinforcement waves, it becomes a Firefight match.

Occupy --- There is one central territorial objective in the area. The team that controls it does not deplete reinforcement waves. This gameplay in this mode is reminiscent to King of the Hill or "tug of war".

Ambush --- A high value target ("HVT") must be escorted to an extraction point. It's one team's goal to make this happen and it's the other team's goal to stop this from happening at all costs. The HVT is only armed with a silenced pistol, but can pick up a weapon from a fallen enemy or teammate.

Strike --- Three weapon caches must be destroyed by the attacking team to achieve victory. Destroying a cache earns the attackers more reinforcements and time on the clock. The defenders must retain at least one cache from being destroyed and eliminate the enemy team once their reinforcements run dry.

Infiltrate --- The standard Capture the Flag mode, but with a twist. Your team's goal is to take the enemy's intel and return it to your base. Your team will only gain reinforcements when someone takes the enemy's intel, or when an enemy stealing your team's intel is neutralized. This mode requires very strong team coordination and strategy.

Flashpoint --- One neutral territorial objective and two caches on each side. The goal is to secure the entire area, controlling the middle and destroying the enemy's caches. Your team respawns when they secure the territorial objective or destroy a cache objective.

Elimination --- In this single life mode, attackers must destroy one of two weapon caches, or eliminate the enemy team within the time limit. Defenders must kill all attackers.

Cooperative Game Modes

Checkpoint --- Complete mission-based objectives in sequence against AI enemy. Each successful objective will respawn anyone who was eliminated along the way.

Hunt --- Insurgents are dispersed in the environment, and your squad must eliminate all targets while locating and destroying the weapons cache. High on tension, with only one-life.

Survival --- Play as Insurgents and fight against endless waves of progressively difficult Security enemies on night themed maps. Reaching safehouse objectives with your team earns you supply to purchase better weapons and spawns any dead teammates.

Outpost --- Defend your supply cache against endless waves of enemy trying to destroy it. Each successfully defended wave will bring in reinforcements of your teammates.

Conquer --- Capture the objectives in the area and defend them from enemy trying to retake them. Destroy enemy weapon caches to thin out their numbers.

This game is not for the impatient or the twitch shooters who like mindlessly running and gunning down whatever moves near their randomized spawn. Skill is not the be all, end all of this game. It plays a large role but ultimately boils down to: The smarter team ALWAYS wins.

If you like first person shooters that are challenging, i recommend this game. It will make you an extremely efficient player in other fps shooters if you invest some time into it. With 1 or 2 bullets killing you, it forces you to really learn the maps for camping spots and how to properly use cover/concealment. Also, players learn your strategy from the previous rounds so you have to be adaptable and unpredictable. The developers put an emphasis on teamwork and it shows. The scoring system is based more on playing the objectives and less on the k:d. It is also extremely rewarding if you win after a long round with evenly matched teams.

The workshop is one of the reasons why I really enjoy this game. It is completely customizeable. You can change the weapons, optics, reticles, scope reflection colors, gun sounds, player skins, music, and even environmental details just by hitting a subscribe button (for free). The community is also amazing. You have a ton of players making quality mods including the developers themselves posting weapons. You know it will be top notch.

If pvp isn't your thing, there is a coop setting with many fun game modes where you play against bots. There are even many custom servers.

As for how the game runs, it is very smooth. Even if you have a lower end rig, there is very little compromise and still looks friggin awesome. There are, however, minor bugs here and there and sometimes crashes happen but it is still a solid game.

One thing I noticed is that the developers did their homework with the guns and are very detail oriented. You can see smoke trailing off the end of the barrel after shooting for extended periods. Blood splatter patterns of your teammates can indicate the direction of the shooter. Each mag contains the correct number of rounds after you reload (no fairies sitting in your pockets recombining your ammo in this game). The suppression is so intense that it scares the crap out of you the first time you pick this up. Changes in tone can tell you what type of grenade was thrown. And the audio direction cues are spot on. You can pinpoint exactly where someone is sneaking up on you, based on the footsteps or gun sounds. I've noticed a lot of fps shooters have sounds indicating the general direction of players and then you have to search a little to see the enemies. In this game, you hear them, you shoot them.

Cons:

1) Crashing to desktop can be a major buzzkill
2) Some custom servers override your mods and can cause conflict making parts of the gun invisible until restart
3) Spawn camping (until you learn to avoid certain areas altogether, it's not fun)
4) You will probably suck for a loong time in this game in the beginning
5) This game is hardcore so there is no crosshair (ever) or kill indicators on some of the servers. So if you're used to having them, you're gonna have a bad time...
6) Teamkillling and spam kickers can get out of hand very fast and ruin the experience sometimes.
7) Your character can be pretty stupid. When you are trying to be sneaky behind some enemies and a teammate happens to die within your line of sight, your guy might yell out, "♥♥♥♥ THEY TOOK OUT OUR SQUAD LEADER!!" getting you completely massacred. Can't tell you how many times I've died from the stupidity of my character announcing my presence.

Still a great game though and I highly recommend it if you have the grit to take it on. (I have some friends who refuse to play this game because it was too hard for them. Especially on the sniper heavy pvp maps)

> Drop into the game for the first time with a few of my friends
> Get killed early on
> Decide to Spectate my friend
> Each of our teamates are shot and incinerated around him
> It's just him now
> He's cowering in the corner of a villa somewhere in the middle east waiting for the end
> Terrorists swarm into the room
> Screaming Commences
> Hot lead follows
> Terries drop like flies as he stands in the center of the room shooting like an autist on speed
> Watch in horror as bodies are piled around the entrances to the room
> Teamates are silent
> Screaming continues as he runs out of bullets and knifes the remaining enemies to death
> One last turbanmin rounds the corner to finish him
> Covered in blood and viscera, he stabs the man twice before shooting him with his handgun
> Screaming ends
> Everyone respawns
> "Dude holy ♥♥♥♥."

Product received for free
when i first played this i felt like its two games mashed together, Battlefield and CSGO, though its not bad, what i mean is the gamemodes remind me of CS in some ways but ofcourse its not the exact same as it, just similar, this also ties into the bf part aswell, like the mode where you capture flags reminds of rush in bf3 same goes for the attachments but here the attachments are FARRRR Better than BF can ever hope to dream of, i get BF Is going WW1 soon but this games attachment are very similar to bf3, but in many ways better, same for the gamemodes, if you like battlefield and cs then try this out, hell even if you like FPS games in general, and by no means am i trashing this or anything, i've only played a bit but i love it, fits my tastes perfectly :DD

(thx to Capitalism for gifting me this aswell :D)

looking for something thats realistic like squad,or arma but dont want the large learning curve and intricate controls, look no further especially for the price this game delivers awesome medium map sizes found in most fps and the controls are all familier but the damage realism is where this game thrives it is a very fun and realistic fire fight with your friends and if you play offline it is just as fun and real with the ai bots. 5/5 one of the best realistic military shooters with the easiest learning curve

~Mission 1 Log~
"Okay, guys. Stealth is the answer. Silencers and knives only." "Understood."
Belly Crawl. Belly Crawl. Belly Crawl. "ARR PEE GEE!!"
~Insurgents have wiped out your team~

~Mission 2 Log~
"All right. That didn't go so well. Let's keep them at range. We can see them coming and deal with them before they have a chance to deal with us. It looks like the enemy is carrying mostly mid-range assault rifles, so we'll have the advantage. Stick to uneven terrain and windows. Expose as little of your body as possible."
*Thwip!* Headshot.
~Insurgents have wiped out your team~

~Mission 3 Log~
"All right. Forget it. We're going in guns blazing. Assault Rifles, Incendiary Grenades, Machine Guns. Let's show these cleverly undefined and politically ambiguous opposing forces what for!"
Molotov Cocktail.

If you like FPS's you will like this. This game has been around since late 2007 (prior version) and has been well polished since the intial release. This is highly underated and easily worth the $10, but there are plenty of deals out there to get it for less.
