About This Game

Frank West, a freelance photojournalist on the hunt for the scoop of a lifetime, pursues a juicy lead to a small suburban town only to find that it is being overrun by zombies! He escapes to the local shopping mall thinking it will be a bastion of safety, but it turns out to be anything but. It's a true struggle to survive the endless stream of enemies, but with full reign over an entire shopping center, Frank can utilize anything to fight off the flesh-hungry mob and search for the truth behind the horrendous epidemic.

This action horror game brings new meaning to the phrase "retail hell." Dead Rising uses a dynamic real-time system in which time continues to pass whether Frank is actively engaged or remains stationary. For example, though they move slowly during the day, zombies become stronger and faster when the sun sets and make it even more difficult to survive at night. The unprecedented swarms come in never-ending waves and consist of a diverse population. These former humans retain some memory of their previous lives and it is reflected in their behavior and appearance. The variety of different stores in the mall offers an endless supply of resources including vehicles, makeshift weapons and more. Other survivors are encountered along the way and helping them can provide valuable clues as to what has happened.

Key features:

  • Huge Environments – Expansive indoor and outdoor areas of the mall provide a variety of different locations to explore!
  • Swarm Technology – Allows an unprecedented amount of enemies on screen at once resulting in nonstop, pulse-pounding action.
  • Intense Gore and Vibrant Realism.
  • Anything in the mall is at Frank's disposal
  • Move environmental objects like table umbrellas or mall benches.
  • Snatch items from different stores to use as weapons, including golf clubs, lawnmowers, fry pans and more!
  • Chow down on various "mall food" to recover health.
  • Real Time System – Key story elements happen at certain times whether Frank is on the spot or not. Don't miss any important events or opportunities!
  • Use Frank's Photojournalistic Skills – Capture the insanity on film; the better the shot, the better the reward will be!
  • NPCs – Help players navigate through the zombie-infested mall.
  • Solve the Mystery – Why has the entire town turned into the undead?

Additional Features & Functionalities:

  • Save System – Now supports up to five save slots
  • Controller Support – Native Xbox 360/Xbox One and PlayStation DualShock 4 controller support with matching button icons
  • Resolution Settings – supports 4K and beyond
  • Variable Frame Rate – uncapped frame rate including support for 144Hz monitors and Nvidia G-SYNC technology
  • Customizable & rebindable keyboard and mouse settings

STILL A FANTASTIC GAME WELL WORTH PLAYING, WITH NO HANDHOLDING LIKE MANY MODERN GAMES
I bought this game back in 2006 along with my 360 and due to finding it hard, a bit frustrating but most of all having other games that distracted me from this game, I never put proper time into it. When the PC version was released over 10 years later, I decided the time had come to give this game a proper go. I'm glad I did, this game is unique, intense, challenging and an absolute blast to play.

PROS
+ In game clock keeps you moving and makes you think about your next moves
+ The graphics have aged well and the game is great to play compared to the 360 version (144FPS, 1440p :))
+ While tounge in cheek the story is actually pretty good
+ Loads of weapons and ways of killing zombies
+ Great risk/reward system with survivors
+ Just when you are getting comfortable the game throws new things at you
+ Most of the bosses are fun
+ Extra save slots are a welcome addition
+ Great reaply value, lots of modes and extras to unlock and lots of ways to play the game

CONS
- The inventory can be fiddly to manage
- The in game clock will annoy some (not me, I think it adds to the game)
- Some boss battles are a bit of an anti climax
- Some boss weapons are so powerful that they make using many of the other fun weapons obselete
- The survivor escort AI is poor, but manageable
- The early challenge and inevitable failures will put the impatient off

OVERALL
This game is great, it's a great example of how older games still grip me and how most newer games just plain bore me as they play it safe with game mechanics. The in game clock will annoy some, but it makes this game as it keps you on your toes, every second counts. If you don't mind slightly clunky controls, occasionally annoying AI and a good challenge (you will fail to start with), then this game is for you. Still one of the best zombie games ever made, even a decade later.

Amazing port, fun game. Has not crashed once after 44 hours of playtime, runs very well and textures look very nice. Loads of fun for 20 bucks.

For someone like me who didn't have the chance to play this when it was out for the 360 because I never owned one and was only able to play the terrible and severely watered down "Dead Rising: Chop 'Till You Drop" on the Nintendo Wii, this port is definately needed in my library.

While the game is fairly aged and has its share of problems this is a great game that shouldn't be missed. If you are a fan of Dead Rising 2, DR2 OTR and DR3 then you are going to love seeing the origin of it all as well as playing as one of the most badass characters of all time, even if it doesn't exactly seem like it. But he's covered wars, you know?
Just don't expect it to be as good as them as many features were not implimented at the time.

PRO
- Large open Wilamette mall to discover and roam
- Characters and psychopaths are all fun, scary and unique
- Lots and lots of zombies on screen
- Remaster really does it justice, looks and sounds great
- Music is awesome, particularly the psychopath boss themes
- Story is really interesting and a unique take on the zombie genre if not being a little cheesy here and there
- Entire game is timed which gives you a fun sense of pressure that doesn't ruin the game
- Bosses are challenging and take preparation
- Unlockables and achievements to go for
- Replayability is high
- Loading screens are basically non existent

CON
- Survivor AI is really clunky which causes them to get stunlocked many, many times on zombies
- Survivors also seem to get themselves stuck on random objects and even other suvivors which makes you waste time sorting their problems out and in a game where you're constantly on the clock it feels frustrating
- Didn't feel like enough food items were placed around, some resteraunt areas are deprived of food items

All in all its a great game and really fun to play even if the suvivours can get you annoyed. That's the charm of replaying old games.

WEEEEEEELL A remaster done right! Welcome back to PC Frank West!
Runs like a damn dream, incredibly optimized, No Denuvo or any bullsh-t hazard, Controller input support, and most importantly it's Dead Rising. The cluncky, hard as balls, incredibly unforgiving sandbox. AKA of the best zombie games ever crafted!

" Do you reccomend this game? " Steam asks...
Not doing so would be stupid!

The perfect example of what you call "A GAME"... On Steam...

* No Single-player Micro-transactions...
* No Co-op Or Multiplayer Micro-transactions...
* No Season Pass Or Downloadable Content...
* No Special Edition To Charge Another £15...
* No Steam Community Market Items To Sell...
* No Quick Bad Port Money Grab To Your Dedicated Fans...

I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. 10/10

In 2006, console players first got to experience Dead Rising, a game which helped pave the way for a more condensed open-world experience brimming with content regardless of map size. Nearly every object in the game could be interacted with, though the interactions often ended up being somewhere along the lines of "place object in deadly manner alongside nearest zombie."

Since then, the ice caps melted, Rome was built, modern society emerged, twerking sadly became a thing, and the apocalypse has come a total of at least 7 times. It's now 2016, and PC players are finally able to experience (or re-experience) this gem of a zombie title.

This is so stupid and over-the-top, me and my brother are having a blast. Most zombie games take themselves so seriously, this is so silly and it's great.

I started playuing this game back 10 years ago and was amazed. I enjoyed this game especially due to it's intriguing story. I would highly recommend this game as it is worth it. The graphics are astonishing for it being made back in 2006. Even if you have it on the xbox I would still recommend it because you will be able to mod your game which makes it even more interesting. I hope all of you who are reading this please consider buying this. Don't forget to preorder Dead Rising 4!!!!! It's a remake of this game :D.

If you haven't beat Dead Rising and gotten the best ending. This is spoilers. I guess. I mean its a tip. For something else. Just a tip for peeps who are trying to beat Infinity Mode, If you do have the Real Mega Buster skip ahead until the big AHHH caps, Don't do Infinity yet, instead do story mode but ignore the cases and go straight into the parking lot and grab a car and start going crazy in the maintence tunnels but stay close to the entrance/exit so incase your car breaks you are a couple feet away. Repeat until you obtain Zombie Genocider, then wait on the helipad for Ending B. , AHHH , If you are a busy man but still want to beat this game you can try leaving your computer on. If its a laptop I recommend just unplugging the charger and closing the game on Power Saver cuz if you don't, Your local firefighters are gonna drop by and say hi. Try and get all 3 health magazines. *Survival is in the empty store in North Plaza, right next to Crislips* *Health 1 is in Sir Books-A-Lot, Wonderland Plaza* *Health 2 is in Entrance Plaza in Everyone Luvs Books* and try and ration food. A strategy I used is to barricade in a certain area with tons of food, put them in a single pile. And wait until your health goes down to one, pick a food out of the pile, eat it, then wait some more. If your food gets lower than 8 then you have to find more food. I went to Food Court on Day 1, then I traveled to Al Fresca where Isabela with a motorcycle was attacking on Day 2, I went and started roaming around the entire map, until I realized Carlito is in the maintence tunnels with more food. I roamed to Colby's Movieland and took all the food there. Then I started depending on Survivors and Psychopaths for food. The review may have so many grammar mistakes. I am pretty sure that last sentence about mistakes also had a mistake.

I've played loads of hours on 360 years ago and came back to an experience just as fresh as I remember playing the demo from Xbox Live.

- classic dumb shamble zombies
- real time and completely optional story-line
- multiple endings
- campy dialogue
- quality voice acting and motion capture
- impressive character textures
- time management gameplay that prepared me for college
- visual design that has stood the test of time
- atmospheric with a solid variety of locations
- old school save system
- fantastic optimization
- load points are frequent but load times are practically nil
- photography mechanics are fun
- signature Capcom inventory management madness
- plenty of typical and atypical weapons to choose from
- ridiculous costumes carry over into cutscenes for absolute lunacy
- bursting to the seams with classic influences and homages
- salacious Japanese humor is unbridled
- pointed and irreverent jabs at American culture
- full mouse and keyboard functionality but some awkward menu controls
- hair-splittingly terrible A.I. decision-making and pathing
- high replay value
- psychopath encounters are entertaining

There are few games I recommend as highly as Dead Rising.
