Atlas Reactor Is Live: The Reaction Has Begun!

Ready up Lancers – Atlas Reactor is live!

We are thrilled to welcome you into the world of Atlas Reactor. You’ll be rewarded for solid team tactics, deep strategy, and quick thinking. This fast-paced, turn-based, arena brawler takes the best of what you know and combines it with innovative mechanics, for a truly unique PvP experience. We welcome back veteran lancers and new recruits who will forge their own legacy!

Today is launch day – the culmination of a lot of hard work, fantastic feedback, great games, and whiffed taunts – but we’re not stopping here. We’re not even slowing down! We’ve got a ton of new features and cosmetics lined up, to provide an incredible experience from here on out. To celebrate this momentous milestone, you can pick up Atlas Reactor for 10% off for the next week! We’re discounting all 3 of the new launch packs for this limited time, so don’t miss out.

Our Executive Producer, Peter Ju – more commonly known as “pju” – is incredibly proud of this game, this team, and this community. Read on for his thoughts!

Producer’s Letter:

It takes a lot to start a project, it takes more to keep a project moving forward, and, in the end, the last push to launch a game is always the hardest. So I am truly grateful and proud of all the hard work and sacrifice our team has put into the last big push to launch Atlas Reactor.

Atlas Reactor’s core game-play is different than anything else out there. In the beginning, we wondered if we were crazy for liking our prototype as much as we did. Then Trion employees from other teams starting playing and falling in love with the game, so we started wondering if our studio was crazy too. Then came Closed Alpha, Closed Beta, and Open Beta, and at each step we found more and more people who enjoyed the game.

I believe we have finally reached the point where we know we aren’t crazy. People “get” Atlas Reactor. It’s time to share it with the world!

We launched today, and we have no intention of slowing down! We will be releasing new stuff at a very rapid pace. For launch, we are introducing our new map, “The Omni Core,” a new Freelancer, “Juno“, and a new way to express yourself in game with Overcons. You’ll also be able to race each other for World First accomplishments.

Our Halloween event arrives October 18, which will introduce a bunch of new cosmetics and a new Freelancer. Next, we will start our Ranked Season… then another Freelancer… then a new game mode… another map… a bunch more Skins … then another Freelancer … Trust Wars … then another Freelancer … Then our Holiday Season Event… We have a ton of stuff on our road map through the end of this year and beyond. New features will continue rolling out too, like better stat tracking (Damage dodged will be coming!), individual Freelancer stat tracking (How much lifetime damage have you blocked with Rampart’s shield?), replays with rewind and fast forward capabilities, plus a lot more.

I have been playing this game after work every day for the past year and a half (the few days I missed were due to travelling to spread the word about the game). I am truly lucky to work on a game that I love playing. The reason I still love Atlas Reactor is because of the quality of work produced by the Atlas Reactor team, and all the great players that have made such an amazing community for Atlas Reactor. So thank you all for being with us from the very beginning and helping to create such a great community!

We look forward to playing with all of you on this next step of our amazing journey together, and in the months and years to come!

Like Rask, Atlas Reactor “CANNOT BE STOPPED!”

The games is ok it just.. kinda lacks content (game modes?) and imo the free-to-play model is pretty bad, it's more like a free-to-test, there is no in-game currency for you to buy/ unlock characters with, you either buy the pack with ALL characters or you're stuck with the 'free rotation' -a few free characters that change every week(?)-

Also the publisher(?) was completely out of their minds when they decided to ignore regional pricing, right now in the brazilian store Atlas Reactor cheapest pack cost as much as:
The Witcher® 3: Wild Hunt on Steam (base game/ no sale) ⁉

Refreshing and unique.

X-com multiplayer hybrid style with great cheeky characters.

Excelent pvp action and progression. Dedicated developers who always reply on steam forums and very active on social media.

Hope to see the game grow with more content :D

So what is Atlas Reactor? Probably one of the most difficult to describe as an actual genre, but its like if XCOM and Frozen Synapse were combined with team-based multiplayer. Atlas Reactor is a turn-based simultaneous arena game, get together in 4v4 matches on a continuing variety of maps to prep, dash and blast your way to victory.

As you can tell I have well over 500 hrs put into this game, probably closer to 1000 before it was added to Steam. I've played through alpha, beta and now going into open and I have to say I absolutely love every bit of this game. The strategy, the abilities, the characters and the world. But by far, the community is one of the best I've ever had the pleasure of playing with. Nearly everyone who plays is pretty friendly and helpful, especially those that use the Atlas Reactor official Discord.

The game itself is Buy to Play to unlock everything permanently, the only thing actually buyable in-game currently are loot boxes, which give you nothing more than cosmetic stuff, which can just as easily be bought using the in-game currency for specific cosmetics. Nothing in this game is pay to win. And if you dont know how you feel about the game yet, there is a Free Mode, which is essentially a demo that allows you to play PvP with other people freely, but are limited to a rotating roster of characters. Play around on it for awhile and I'm sure it'll have you hooked if you enjoy tactical strategy games.

The learning curve on the game itself is easy to get into-hard to master type approach, with each character having their own separate learning curves as well. Also, every skill in the game can have variations to them in the form of Mods, which you adjust prior to playing and can change your strategy quite a bit. As far as character (known as Freelancers) types, you have the basic three, Firepower(DPS), Frontliner(Tanks) and Supports. However quite a few of them have hybrid roles at times. Objective is first to 5 kills or most kills at 20 turns, but will occassionally continue a bit passed that, but the matches themselves are fairly quick at about 20 minutes, approx 1 min per turn. You have 20 seconds to make your choices, then the actions play out on both sides, so you have to think quickly and work with your teammates.

I ask everyone to at least give it a shot if you're into multiplayer games and enjoy strategy, this game should be just right for you, especially if you're a fan of tabletop board games like Warhammer/Warmachine/HeroClix

Atlas Reactor is Fantastic.

The matches are quick and the opportunity for team play is through the roof. Or off the hook. Possibly off the chain?

There's a Free to Play entry point, so no risk in checking it out! Also, Free players don't have ANY statistical disadvantages to paid players. Paid Players have permanent access to their Freelancers, and F2P players have access to a smaller rotating set.

So check it out. Play a few games and I have litte doubt that you'll find *strong* value in one of the Founders Packs.

Wonderful. If you liked the XCOM games and you're a fan of MOBAs, this is the game for you. It's turn-based but everything plays out at once, and while it can be chaotic at times, the chaos only adds to the fun!

Atlas Reactor is a 4v4 XCOM style game, where each player/bot controls 1 character. Threre is no RNG deciding if you hit or miss, so you won't get robbed of a kill because the RNG said no. The game is really easy to understand, it only took the tutorial and a coop game to teach me how most of the game works. There is mini-videos on some game mechanics and character's skills which if very helpful. You may have to look up guides to fully understand some game mechanics that they don't teach in the tutorial however. I adore the music in Atlas Reactor, you got the main menu to get you pumped you up for the next match. The music also intensifies whenever a taunt is activated, it makes matches so tense. Atlas Reactor seems to be very balanced to me, I don't think anyone is overpowered and every match I can feel a comeback from either team.

There is a "free mode" which is you can play for free, treat it as a demo. In Free-mode, you have access to these features:
  • Pvp and Coop Queues
  • Cosmetics
  • All maps
  • Level up system, with a loot box every level
  • Dailies

    The limitations of Freemode:
  • Can't queue up for Ranked PvP
  • Can only play the characters in the weekly rotation,
  • Unable to buy loot boxes (But you can still earn them)
  • Can only open a loot box every 36 hours.
  • Unable to earn currency to buy cosmetics.
(Official blog post about free-mode]

Overall 8,5/10 game for me.

Fast paced, yet intuitive combat. It does take a bit to understand the mechanics, but once you do it is a fun tactical game.

A game without much content that is relying solely on its so called unique gameplay to keep you interested, when in reality everyone over a certain age will remember when this system was very popular with flash games in the early 00's.

The artistic direction of this game suffers from the same issues that many mobas and other "character driven" games do in that they have no cohesive design direction, and instead rely on developers coming up with a ton of "cool" character ideas in a vaccume.

I'm still waiting for the mobaesque game that actually utilizes faction v faction mechanics with solid artistic and gameplay direction to create a unique experience with asymetric balance instead of just pulling random "hero"(or in this case, freelancer) ideas out of their ♥♥♥.

This game not only does nothing new, but also fails to deliver on quantity or quality regarding the content that is here.

On top of all of this it is a Trion game, so even if things were good you know it would only be a matter of time before they find a way to turn it into p2w trash.

Best to avoid this one and it's misleading free to play platform.

It's a new and refreshing game, with easy to lern mechanics and fast gameplay. My only beef with it is lackluster customization (2 recolored skins per freelancer) and the fact that trion did a realy bad job of implementing f2p demoish thing they try to do.

I wish there was a neutral option instead of just yes or no. I will still play this game quite often because there are literally no games out at the moment that catch my attention.

That said, prepare for an exercise in frustration. Half the game you will be attacking nothing due to the mad amount of dashes some of the characters have. Some characters are able to use prep, dash and blast phase abilities in the same round, and some only seem to be able to use some of those. It is frustrating watching the enemy link 2-3 abilities in the same turn, while you can only select one move. Seems very unbalanced.

Another frustrating mechanic is the ability to right click on opponents to auto follow their movement at the end of the turn. if the enemy team has good communication, their firepower and frontliners will all do this to your support or squishiest team mate and follow them the entire match. this causes them (or you) to spend every turn debating whether to waste your dash, or select no ability in order to move the farthest distance (if you choose not to use an ability during a turn, you are "rewarded" by being able to move farther at the end of the turn than if you had used an ability during the turn). I feel they should remove this feature, and by doing so it would add another element of strategy to the game - the strategy of having to use your brain to foreshadow opponents movement! instead of cheap auto-follow nonsense.

Otherwise it looks promising. Genre wise it is nothing special though. They will be be releasing the same cookie cutter characters as every other moba-esque game out there, maybe add some new maps, release some holiday themed b.s. skins for people to waste their money on. Don't go in to it with high expectations, prepare to be frustrated, and you will do just fine.

The payment model is absolutely horrific.

Free-To-Play consists of only the rotation characters and they advertise the fact that you can't buy the heroes seperately (as if that's a good thing?) oh, and then microtransactions jump in AFTER you buy the full version.

the game isn't worth £20 at the moment, no way in hell.

However, download it, try it, look at the characters and the gameplay.
If you like it, buy it from Humblebundle.

It's a phenomenal game. (other than the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ business practice.)

Played it for the first day for a few hours with a friend since I liked XCOM. After opening 1 loot box there was a cooldown timer of over 24 hours to open the next loot box. I collected around 8 boxes after my first tryout. If I get 8 boxes everytime I play it for a few hours and have to wait over 8 days to collect all 8 boxes, I will never finish opening them ever... Like what the actual crap is this?
I also realized that you cannot unlock any characters and are probably forced to play weekly rotation characters or something. This is more of a trial than a free to play game.

It's fun to play, I've had some really intense matches but I would never pay this much for a moba. Those prices are a joke, even if you could get everything for only 5€, I probably wouldn't pay for the content I've seen so far.
They could've sold skins, taunts, etc. for real money but whatever, I cannot recommend this game as a free to play game right now.

As it stands, this is a pretty fun turn based strategy/arts type of game with a good, although quiet, community. I've gone full games with only a "gg" spoken at the end of the game between my team. Which, for the type of game it is, I guess is something to be thankful for. Usually though, there is some strategy agreed upon either using the ping system or by typing. I have no experience with the VOIP because I have a bunch of VOIP clients already and I didn't wanna download another one (Discord). However, the current reviews don't really do it justice because people are upset with its business model. The price is fair for the amount of work put in; I've never seen any bugs in my playtime so far, and the graphics, while a bit lacking, are okay considering the angle you typically play at (aerial view). My biggest gripe with the game is the character design, a couple of them are right proper bag jobs.

Strategic turn & team based PvP along the lines of Xcom but with well made characters (none too dull or OTT).

It isn't f2p but there is a free mode where you can try to see if it is your kind of game.
