Bigscreen Theater update is LIVE! 7 new environments & Split Screen gaming mode

Here's the details for today's big update!

7 new environments:
  • 2 theater environments with dynamic lighting. Light from the screen affects the environment—it looks really cool and totally immerses you
  • a Campfire environment with fire animations
  • 4 space environments at 4K resolution
Split Screen gaming:
When 2-4 people display their desktop on the big screen, it turns into a split screen

Side-by-Side 3D Video improvements:
  • New 3D video controls: when you go into SBS it only changes the big screen, so you can still choose your video on your small screen.
  • 3D video hotkeys: F6 toggles SBS, F7 toggles OU. These keyboard shortcuts are customizable in the Input settings.
and more:
  • Camera interface for easily taking GIFs & screenshots and capturing video for Youtube or streaming to Twitch
  • Screen brightness slider for your screen (massively reduces godrays)
  • Performance and streaming quality/framerate improvements

Today's Bigscreen update: text chat \(•◡•)/

We just launched another Bigscreen update!

Text chat
You can now send text messages to people in your multiplayer room. This is great for chatting and sharing links.

Banned users
We now perma-ban users that get too many reports in multiplayer rooms. If someone trolls you (ex. coming into your room and displaying porn), please report them. After several strikes, they will be banned from using Bigscreen's public rooms. Banned users can still use Bigscreen in singleplayer or private multiplayer rooms.

Improved kick functionality
If you kick someone from your room, they will not be able to re-join your room (even if they restart or reinstall).

Next week...
Next week, we're launching a new Home Theater environment! It's legit amazing to play games and watch movies in there. The light from screen makes the environment light up dynamically. We think you're going to love it, it's better than real life. Seriously.

A very useful utility but there are still some feature gaps.

There are a number of hidden features in here that aren't exactly intuitive to find. For example the capture mode setting. I didn't notice it early on when playing with my camera setup and all Google results said that it should be in the settings menu. It makes sense in the settings menu to me. I ended up having to ask where it was.

--Devs are fixing this--
Probably the biggest issue that bothered me was the camera resetting. There's a section of this video where I didn't realize the camera reset to my face that I'm trying to show you what I see and essentially becomes meaningless due to you only looking at my face. I left it in to illustrate the problem and hopefully the devs see it and address it. They seem pretty responsive.

--Holding the trigger while moving a window should resolve this according to the devs--
I also wish you could control the window a bit more. If I wanted to lay the window flat on the floor/table I couldn't do that due to it's locked rotation around my face.

Aside from a handful of issues which were more User Experience issues than functional issues, this is a great utility. It had a large range of environments to choose from and again it seems like they're updating frequently. This would be perfect for a VR theater setup or even a new way to experience your flat games. Though I don't think it beats Ultra settings at 4k. This is probably somewhere inbetween a standard HD monitor and a 2k experience.

TL;DR

Great tool but...
Could have a more intuitive UI/UX
Camera resets to your face, no way to change that behavior. Very annoying for showing off the tool.
Would like more control over the position of the screen relative to my head.

Even with some issues it's still well worth the price..... it's free... If you have a Vive, use this.

Very highly recommended, lot of fun to be in a virtual theatre with other people, to just watch a movie together or just browse the web and chat! Lot of fun and the new update with the dynamic lighting in the new theatres is simply fantastic! Must try! The devs are very active.. amazing application

I absolutely adore this app. Its a virtual desktop/theatre mode that actually works, and it works really well. There are lots of environments to choose from, and the devs keep adding more. They all look stunning. You can play with friends/other people and see their screens. The only problem with this is that they are floating heads, but thats because you're using keyboard and mouse, not motion controls. Perhaps a fixed body, or one that turns when the players head turns could be used, but its probably not needed.

Highly reccomend.

Highly Highly recommended.

I'm using my DK2 and it runs buttery, silky, baby buttom smooth.
Each update, so far, has only been getting better.
The rooms are beautiful and the added features like spiltscreen and dual screen really makes this awesome.
Being able to join rooms with other users and create your own is a bonus
If they had charged money for this, I would have gladly paid for it. I can't believe this is free.

Excellent. Multiplayer is fun. I dumped Virtual Desktop in favour of this. Environments are much better to.

Must Try
I dream of getting one of those 100+" inch curve monitor in my cramp room and this lets me try it. Then I get neck cramp looking all over the screen after 15 minutes of working with it. I will stick with my 24" monitor for now.

Very nice visuals and intutive user interface.

It's awesome being able to watch shows on a big screen despite not actually having one in the apartment. My only wish would be for a higher resolution vive. When you really expand out the video the screen door effect becomes more pronounced.

This is a fantastic application. Despite being free, I use it more than all other VR apps combined.

Watching videos on a virtual cinema is soothing, and you can set up backdrops that are utterly impossible in real life.

Made a lobby and was immediatly greeted with 3 very kind people. Even ended up making friends with one of them and now we run around in Onward shooting it up. 10/10 would make virtual friends again.
