Of all the games bought during the summer sale, Fran Bow is the one I enjoyed enough to play through once started.

The puzzles are engaging and some are just a little ambiguous, but concentrating on your goal or desired outcome should be sufficient to find the solution.

Is is hard to say if the story is straight forwards, a parble, allegory or euphemism; but I found it interesting and thought it revealed itself in a timely way.

Overall an excellent game that I very much enjoyed. The style and ambience is interesting, with a nice kind of horror touch. Didn't exactly scare, just had some creepy imagery. Certainly one for adults. The art was very creative, and an interesting storyline too. The puzzles weren't too difficult, allowing you to enjoy the story. The alternative reality gimmick was very cool.

I very much recommend spending the money and experiencing this game. Worth the cost of a cinema ticket, many times over.

The things I liked in this beautiful game are: soundtrack, atmosphere and ending, and I'd like to elaborate on the last two.

You see, Fran Bow's story becomes the more horrific the more you think about it, because in the game it's never stated what's really happened. Did Fran kill her parents? Or was it her aunt? Or the scary monster was real? Is Fran truly insane? Or do the pills just cloud her mind? Or maybe in reality this world is truly so ♥♥♥♥ed up and the pills just help Fran see it? The game will never hint you what is right. You're never 100% sure what is real and whether you're hallucinating because of the medicine or you're just batshit insane. And that's exactly what a good PSYCHOLOGICAL Horror should do, imho.

This is a very unique game with a very dark storyline. The art is lovely and grotesque, and there is plenty of shock factor. The puzzle mechanics were brilliant, although I did struggle with some.

Overall, a delight, and I look forward to playing this again sometime.

The game exhibited a different point view of the world, or reality and ultrareality. It connected to the idea of "Interstellar" and quantum physics of the world of 4th, 5th dimension and so on. In the other view from neuroscience or psychiatry, it also displayed relationships between halluciations, delusions or other psychopathological symptoms, and the unconscious mental reality which was explained by the theory of Sigmund Freud. However, the designer of this game tried to point out a worldview that no matter what kind of reality is, or where , or when it is, it is truely existed. And the most precious thing is the bravery emerged from curiosity of Fran Bow to give this whole world a better balance.

A charming tale about a young girl who's clearly lost her mind and probably killed her parents.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk-Wn891v2E

Fran Bow is dark, depressing, twisted, and highly disturbing. You wake up in a mental ward with dark memories, but clearly not knowing the full story. You decide to escape. This is your story.

"Yeah, I was watching (some youtuber) on twitch and he was playing Fran Bow! Do you know of it?"
"Yeah, I have it."
"There's some really messed up stuff in there dude."
"Huh maybe I'll go home and download it"

Big mistake.
Quite frankly I'm spooked easily and I never made it out of the first chapter. The atmosphere of what I got to see before noping straight out of it, is extremely macrebe and is what one can imagine living with a mental disorder is like.
Thank heavens I'm only a bit OCD and a bit ADD my goodness.

If you are not like me, and do not get spooked easily, it might be up your ally.
Its just not my kind of game.

The art and shadow effects are superb, the blood that coats the walls honestly reminds me of what an insane asylum might've looked like back then, considering how awful they were back then.
"But Psi you have The Dark Desent!" Mhmm I do. It was free so I snagged it.
Notice how it has no playtime.

Not my kind of game/10

These are one of the best games I have ever played in a long time.
This game has a story of its own and has a lot of puzzles. The developer who made this game, including the soundtrack developer. I have played this game 3 times and I have been inspired to watch many horror movies from this game.
Swear to god,

First off, just quick and to the point, if you're a fan of point and click adventure and the screenshots appeal to you, I would heavily recommend this.

Fran Bow is a a moving story about a girl with a problem. There's lots of symbolism in this journey, some of it a bit convoluted and silly if you haven't got your mind in the fantasy mindset, but it is absolutely a pleasure to play.

It's pretty, creepy at times (most of the time, actually), and I never really felt "stuck", as can happen with less put-together point and click games.

I really recommend this playthrough. My time played reflects the time for a non-100% playthrough, so you're likely to get about eight hours of gameplay out of this game, give or take. Replay value is low to non-existent, but it's certainly worth that first time around.

I love it! It has many buttons to push!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I like gore, fairytale-like games and delicate indies, which makes Fran Bow probably my favorite game in 2015 and 2016.

Art style
The style of Fran Bow is cute and creepy. It blurs the reality and hallucination as it intends to and does a really great job. The art fits the atmosphere really well. The majority of the characters and scenes of the game look as if they come from a children’s story book, which reminds me of American Mcgee’s Alice series and a movie called Babadook. They all use the innocence of the art style to forge some really disturbing, dark and gore things which leads to a strong contrast to represent how some innocent life gets sucked into the vortex of chaos. Not only is the art so expressive, but the animations in Fran Bow is so well polished as well. I really like the animations of Itward. He looks so clumsy which cannot be more suitable for a tall and gentle skeleton imaginary friend. I think animations of the characters is what contributes to the immersion of the game the most. Music, however, is not that memorable, but it has the atmosphere needed and it is still far better than mediocre.

Narrative Style
As a point & click adventure puzzle game, the story and writings of Fran Bow is fascinating. The story itself is really dark and sad at first. But Fran manages to stay enthusiastic and curious throughout the game. Many point & click games have the protagonist reacting to things that can be clicked on. In Fran Bow, the reaction is mostly adorable and humorous, just like when it comes from a 10-year-old girl (with mental problem). The lines do not have to be sharp or smart but to remain childish and concerning that, I think the game does a better job than many Triple A titles because the lines fit the character well.

As for the story, apart from its dark and fabulous nature, many part of it has some kind of metaphor and I think some of them are not really clear. The ending is controversial. It is a bit cliffhanging and hopefully it will be explained in a sequel. I think the ending is very similar to the endings of Alice: Madness returns and Pan’s Labyrinth. I kind of like the ending. It is heart-warming and open. However, the pace in the last chapter is too fast that a lot of terrible facts are revealed but there is no valid explanation. Although there is some foreshadowing, it is still clunky for some characters to suddenly appear as a bad guy. I really look forward to getting more answers from a sequel.

Verdict
Fran Bow is a relatively small game which does not have that much content and really complex mechanics. As for what it already has, I think it’s mind-blowing enough. The game has the power to impress and inspire people which is a result of really careful design from the developers. Fran’s characteristics such as enthusiasm and curiosity must have something to do with the designer Natalia herself, though I don’t get where all those gores come from. I think it is a good way to craft indie games and it needs devoting a great part of life to it so one cannot do that very often. Anyway, I think it’s a brilliant start and Killmonday will be on my list of ”most anticipated developers”.

Wow...

All I can say is after playing through this game twice, I cannot wait to play it again. Absolutely incredible, touching, mysterious, and curious.

All of the characters in this game are very unique and leave a distinct memory in your mind long after you are done playing. To think that this masterpiece was only made by two people blows my mind.

10/10 A MUST play for any Indie game lover.

Creepy, confusing, and absurd, THIS is what I want out of a horror game, not that cheap jumpscare ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t. (This game does have some jumpscares, but the game doesn't use them as a crutch, as many horror games do). The puzzle elements of the game worked well, I never got stuck for too long and the solutions always made logical sense, and I appreciate that the game lets you skip some non-puzzle-based challenges (though I only had to do this once, when I got fed up with a certain platforming challenge towards the end of the game).

Fran Bow is a very unusual game. Perfectly fits as a psychoogical horror. I don't enjoy playing point & click games that much but surprisingly this game is very fun to play. From arts to story, everything in this game is really well made. Puzzles aren't that hard since you will be able to find clues almost easily. The first chapter is pretty disturbing compared to other chapters. Must have for fans of point & click adventure games.
